The availability of capital to finance India’s green initiatives has been a challenge. How do we solve the need for capital flows? A mature green finance sector will be crucial for India’s net-zero transition. A four-pronged approach will catalyze an at-scale green finance sector in India.

India is the world’s third-largest GHG emitter. The energy sector accounts for about 40 percent of India’s GHG emissions, with coal being the dominant source of total fossil CO2 emissions. Decarbonizing the sector will require a three-pronged approach: adoption of renewables, reduction of fossil CO2 emissions through enhanced efficiencies, and carbon sequestration.

Day 10: In the final article of our 10-part series on a roadmap for a Net Zero India, we talk today about Green Innovation. With only between a quarter and a third of carbon emissions potentially mitigable with existing technology, the need for innovation is clear. India’s Net Zero transition will be the greatest technical, social, political, financial, and organizational innovation challenge in its history.

In today's article, Arun Unni and Viswanathan Rajendran share perspectives on how humanity can innovate its way out of the global warming crisis. Achieving Net Zero will need breakthrough innovation across five inter-related, but distinct, ecosystems: the government/PSU ecosystem, the corporate ecosystem, the startup ecosystem, the MSME ecosystem, and the Social/NGO ecosystem.

India can take a lead on sustainability innovation, in addition to its demonstrated approach to adopting current technologies aggressively.

Day 9: In our ongoing 10-part series on a roadmap for a Net Zero India, we talk today about Climate Adaptation. First, the grim reality: reducing emissions and sequestering carbon is no longer enough to entirely halt the impacts of climate change. In some senses, India is already in a post-Climate Change world, and it's now time to start adapting.

In today's article, Kearney partners Arun Unni and Viswanathan Rajendran share their perspectives on survival and resilience in an already warming world.

Given India’s high exposure to the negative impacts of rising wet bulb temperatures, we will need a concerted, mission mode action plan across stake..

Day 8: In our ongoing 10-part series on a roadmap for a Net Zero India, we talk today about Green Finance. India will need trillions of dollars in investment to achieve its Panchamrit Net Zero pledge.

In today's article, Kearney India’s Financial Services leaders Nidhi Tiwari and Shashank V. share a five-point framework to catalyze India's fledgling Green Finance sector.

COVID-19 has triggered a recalibration of sourcing patterns, encouraging ‘China Plus One’ sentiment. This underscores a crucial opportunity for Indian textiles industry to stage a turnaround and regain its position as a top exporting economy, says Partner Neelesh Hundekari. Day 7: In our ongoing 10-part series on a roadmap for a Net Zero India, we talk today about Carbon Sequestration. The world, and India, can no longer reach Net Zero goals through emission reduction alone. Achieving Net Zero will require the widespread adoption of mechanisms to remove carbon dioxide that is already in the air due to unavoidable emissions.

In today's article, Kearney leaders Sanchit Makhija, Sudeep Maheshwari, and Viswanathan Rajendran talk about the two broad pathways to carbon removal: nature-based and technology-based. India will need to aggressively adopt and scale both pathways.

India’s Mission Carbon Capture will need an entire gamut of enabling policy and regulatory framework to drive rapid progress on both nature-based as..

Day 6: In our ongoing 10-part series on a roadmap for a Net Zero India, we talk today about a sustainable transition plan for India’s agriculture sector. Of all the major GHG emitting sectors, agriculture possibly has the most complex relationship with Climate Change. The global food system is a leading cause of Climate Change, a significant victim of Climate Change, and is potentially a key contributor to solving for Climate Change as well.

India’s food system is the largest contributor to Nitrous Oxide and
Methane – both Greenhouse Gases with significantly higher warming impact than CO2 in the short term. In today's article, Kearney Partners Sudeep Maheshwari and Viswanathan Rajendran propose three key levers to reduce India’s
agricultural GHG footprint: Green Energy for Farms, Precision Farming and Sustainable Animal Husbandry.

Achieving India’s ambitious Mission 2070 net zero targets will need a systemic rethink of our approach to agriculture.
