🏥 **POA = Present on Admission**

POA indicators help coders identify whether a condition was **present at the time of inpatient admission** or developed during the hospital stay.

🔹 **Y – Yes:** Condition was present on admission
🔹 **N – No:** Condition was not present on admission
🔹 **U – Unknown:** Documentation is insufficient to determine POA status
🔹 **W – Clinically Undetermined:** Documentation is conflicting, and POA cannot be clinically determined
🔹 **E – Exempt:** Condition is exempt from POA reporting
🔹 **1 – Yes, POA:** Condition was present at the time of admission
🔹 **2 – No, Not POA:** Condition developed after admission

💡 **Medical Coding Tip:** Always review the provider documentation and applicable POA reporting guidelines before assigning the indicator.
