Harvard Model United Nations India is one of the most premier conferences in the world with over 1000 participants. The conference legacy spans over 7 decades. The conference is co-produced by the Harvard IRC and Worldview. The 13th edition is scheduled to take place at The Hilton, in Bengaluru from 13-15 August 2023. A committee can spend an hour debating without moving an inch. And then, somewhere away from the microphone, two delegates pull their chairs closer.

A clause is rewritten. Someone gives up a word they were fighting for. Another crosses the room to speak to the bloc they had spent the morning opposing. A few placards slowly become a coalition.

There is no applause for that moment. Sometimes, most of the room does not even notice it.

But the committee has moved.

HMUN India champions this kind of diplomacy, the kind built through listening, negotiation, compromise, and the willingness to cross the room. We hope delegates leave knowing that moving a committee forward, and perhaps one day the world outside it, does not always require the loudest voice. Sometimes, it begins with knowing who to listen to.

This Room Matters.

There is ambition in every corner of it. Some of the best schools in the country and beyond, hundreds of young people who have already achieved so much, and many who will go on to lead, build, represent, create and serve at the highest levels.

Years from now, they will sit in very different rooms. Their names may appear on very different doors. But some of what happens here, the arguments they make, the people they meet, the confidence they find, will travel with them.

Because mitti is more than the soil of the place you come from. It is every place that shapes you enough to become part of who you are, something you carry with you wherever you go.

And perhaps, somewhere along the way, HMUN India becomes a little bit of their mitti too.

Maybe transformation is too big a word for something that happens so quietly.

Because nobody quite notices the moment a conference begins to mean more than its agenda.

Four days of disagreement, persuasion, unlikely friendships, changed minds, difficult questions, and dreams slowly finding the courage to take flight.

This was Model UN at its best. Serious about the world, hopeful about the people who will inherit it.

Bengaluru, you gave us quite a Chapter in our XVI year.

Now, we're onto Jaipur!

What if an idea you had at Model UN could live for an entire year?

That’s the HMUN India Impact Initiative.

Delegates came with ideas for problems they wanted to solve. They built them, pitched them and put them before the entire conference.

And for the winning team, it doesn’t end with a trophy.

Their project receives funding and support for an entire year, giving them the chance to take an idea born at HMUN India and actually put it to work.

Because the last gavel shouldn’t have to mean the end of the story.

And then there are moments like these.

Between committee sessions, radio calls, schedules and everything happening at once, there’s laughter. A lot of it.

The kind that comes from running on too little sleep, spending almost every waking hour together, celebrating the tiny wins, and knowing that the people around you understand exactly what it took to get here.

HMUN India can be intense. But somewhere between all the work, we make memories too.

Because behind a conference this big are people who are tired, proud, slightly chaotic, and very, very happy to be doing this together.

The room behind HMUN India.

It’s the place most people at the conference will never see. The calls, the radios, the laptops that never seem to close, the last-minute changes, the problems solved before anyone knows they existed.

This room has seen every emotion. Stress, laughter, exhaustion, relief, celebrations, disagreements, and a fair amount of chaos.

And somewhere along the way, the lines between teams disappear.

Harvard IRC and Worldview walk in as two teams from two sides of the world. For these few days, we become one. One room, one conference, one shared responsibility, working around the clock to keep HMUN India moving.
