Beware of Fake Nepal Flood Relief .APK Scams

Cybercriminals may exploit compassion during natural disasters by sending WhatsApp or social-media messages asking people to donate for Nepal flood relief, along with a suspicious “.APK” file disguised as a donation form, receipt, or relief-registration app. Installing such APKs can give fraudsters access to your phone, OTPs, banking information, and money.

❌ Never install APK files received from unknown sources.

✅ Donate only through verified government or trusted relief organizations.

🚨 If you lose money to cyber fraud, immediately call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in.

Mobile Lost/Theft = Financial Loss 🚨📱💰

Losing your mobile phone can put more than your device at risk—it can expose your banking apps, UPI, OTPs, personal data and financial accounts to cyber fraudsters.

🔐 Act Fast:
1.Block your UPI & banking access immediately,
2.Block SIM,
3.Mobile lost complaint in near by police station (CEIR), and
4.Report cyber fraud without delay.

People should remain extremely vigilant against the latest hybrid cyber fraud gangs that combine traditional pickpocketing tactics with modern cyber crimes to empty innocent bank accounts.

Our investigation has revealed that these gangs are systematically targeting senior citizens and those with low technical knowledge for robbery.

They are stealing phones by keenly observing the PIN/pattern when passengers unlock their phones at bus stands and crowded buses.

If the lock is unknown... when victims call, they say 'We are bus conductors.. We'll return the phone' or use sweet talk under the pretext of 'owner verification' to extract screen passwords.

Subsequently, they are collecting debit cards, Aadhaar/PAN details hidden in the phone's gallery and notes apps.

Using the stolen SIM card, they reset UPI and net banking passwords with incoming OTPs, transfer funds to online gaming apps and mule accounts, and withdraw them.

The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Department has already arrested three accused in such crimes and seized 5 mobile phones from them.

Urging everyone to remain vigilant against such crimes.

Even if someone calls after losing your phone and says they'll return it.. under no circumstances should you share your screen lock PIN or OTPs with anyone.

Never store photos of ATM cards, bank passbooks, Aadhaar/PAN cards in your phone gallery or notes at any time.

Immediately block the SIM card and bank/UPI services right away, and block the phone on the http://ceir.gov.in portal.
