On 20 February 2026, the India Green Steel Coalition (IGSC), an initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry and WWF-India, convened its member meeting in Kolkata to mark a pivotal milestone: the launch of the White Paper on Scrap Management. This meeting brought together the industryโ€™s most influential voices to chart a resilient, net-zero future.

Key Leadership Insights:
๐Ÿ”น The Roadmap to 2030: Mr. Rajiv Mangal (IGSC Chairman & VP, Tata Steel) opened the session by reinforcing the IGSCโ€™s role as a high-level accelerator. The goal is clear: reduce Indiaโ€™s steel emission intensity by 30% by 2030 through strategic roadmaps for green hydrogen, CCUS, and scrap optimization.

๐Ÿ”น Economic Resilience & Margin Growth: Mr. Kapil Bansal (Partner, EY-Parthenon) provided a deep dive into the numbers. India faces a 40โ€“50 MMT scrap supply deficit by 2050. By formalizing domestic collection and reducing import reliance, the industry can capture 14โ€“16% higher margins, transforming scrap into a strategic, high-value asset.

๐Ÿ”น Technical Breakthroughs in Recycling: Representing the Institut Mobilitรฉs en Transition (Paris), Ms. Hannah Gross presented groundbreaking IDDRI/IMT research. She demonstrated how "deep-dismantling" End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) can slash copper contamination from 0.4% to below 0.15%. This makes recycled scrap suitable for high-grade, low-carbon automotive flat steel a gamechanger for the circular economy.

๐Ÿ”น Policy & The Path Forward: In his closing remarks, Mr. Naveen Ahlawat (Chairman, IGSC Policy Group Head-Power to X, Jindal Steel Ltd) outlined the vital work of the policy action group. He emphasized that implementing robust, integrated policies is the final piece of the puzzle to achieve Indiaโ€™s 2070 Net Zero goal.

The 4 webinar workshop sessions had a total participation of over 750 delegates representing 16 Indian industrial sectors resulting in 170+ inquiries and 40+ collaborative discussion over the year in and segments for 11 Swedish companies
