Acoustics plays a very important role over our health and our sense of well being. A sound which is loud or unpleasant (irritating) is considered to be as noise.
We are exposed to various sources of noise in our day to day life which can affect our physical as well as mental health, such as:
The Noise coming from the nearby dwelling.
The noise generated by a procession.
The noise from any mechanical component such as machines, fans, coolers, etc.
Heavy honking
Traffic noise
Crowded and noisy restaurants.
If one is exposed to any one of the mentioned source, it can result in fatigue, as well as can affect the productivity of an individual. A more severe effect of this issue could be partial or permanent deafness.
Say an individual visits a club, he spends about 3-5 hrs in that environment, the next morning it is very likely of him to feel a beep tone in the ears which is because of the noise he was exposed last night. This is also called as temporary threshold shift (TTS).
Even a high noise exposure can result in variation in blood pressure, strain on vocal cords and irritation.
Hence it is very important to design a space which aims to control the noise exposure and to take care of the listening comfort of the individual using the space.
An environment with a better acoustics would lead in better health as well as better productivity.
