In an unfamiliar crisis, like Covid-19, McKinsey in collaboration with multiple organizations created the integrated nerve center which is an efficient means of coordinating
an organization’s active response to this major crisis.
This nerve center helps leaders
and experts zero on the business and organizational approaches in the dynamic environment for its application in this change. The nerve centre
focuses on crucial leadership skills and organizational capabilities, that can be tailored to suit the various organizations. The approach looks promising because it enables a coordinated response led by top management, experts and managers in order to implement creative, pragmatic solutions.

In an unfamiliar crisis such as the outbreak, a new approach we call the integrated nerve center concentrates crucial leadership skills and organizational capabilities and gives leaders the best chance of getting ahead of events rather than reacting to them. https://mck.co/3dl5zEa

As expected, the tourism industry is set to become a major victim of the coronavirus outbreak.
ASEAN nations are likely to be the worst hit, as travel bans reduce the Chinese nationals visiting these countries. The outbreak has affected the post-Chinese New Year travel plans of many tourists, in the wake of travel bans and health concerns.
A ripple effect is also expected beyond Asia-Pacific, through to Europe and the Americas.

More on this issue here:

Chinese outbound tourism will not recover until the second quarter of 2021, with Asean nations to be hit the hardest, says Economist Intelligence Unit.

The rising trade tensions between the US and China - especially post signing the phase one trade deal last month and the deadly Coronavirus outbreak has further negatively impacted the US-China relationship. China is accusing the US of prioritizing the strategic competition over the public health cooperation, with WHO still awaiting confirmation regarding the Coronavirus prevention and treatment program. At the same time, US and other countries have blasted Chinese autocratic government for its censorship and repression regarding this potentially deadly outbreak.

The failure to cooperate on a pressing global health issue that has killed almost 1,400 people and infected more than 64,000 others shows just how much the relationship between the US and China has deteriorated over the past few years

It's about the larger firms developing a strategy that spans service, segmentation, and scale for smaller businesses:

Serving the smaller business has not been the favorite for most of the large giants. In the US, 48 % of national employment comes from 30 million small businesses. Tapping these smaller players would help more substantial companies to reach out to a broader customer base. However, the major challenge is to identify the micro-businesses owing to the uncertainty in their operations and commitments. They have to be segmented based on the underlying needs of the customer rather than the industry groupings as the value proposition varies for smaller businesses. The big shots should have dedicated business units to focus on the small and micro firms and proactively steer them with robust digital interfaces to gain their loyalty, for it includes the high-growth winners in the years ahead.

To sell successfully to this enormous market, develop a strategy that spans service, segmentation and scale.

This year's allocation of budget on education was nearly Rs 1 lakh crore. Although the amount is huge, it may not be significant since the real impact comes from the way the money is spent. In this Union Budget, government aims at two main policies addressing higher education which includes - opening up of FDI for the sector, and the encouragement to open online degrees by top-ranked institutions.
These policies focus on tackling the following problems identified in higher education:
1) Quantity of supply- with distortions both in terms of excess supply and short supply.
2)Quality of supply- with limited focus on creativity and research-orientation, and critical and liberal thinking.

The focus of higher education is on improved regulation including restructuring of institutions, establishing National Research Foundation and professional faculty development. While the focus areas are in the right direction, its implementation might be a challenge which is yet to unfold.

Budget 2020 India: Higher educational institutions need to refocus themselves as research and teaching bodies, rather than just money-making teaching shops.

Coronavirus - the deadly virus has illustrated the increasingly central role China plays in global manufacturing, from clothing and chemicals to automobiles and especially technology.
Apple seems to be worried that its most important partner, Foxconn, warned investors of the daunting task of securing enough workers despite widespread transport blockades, quarantining thousands, and the “nightmare" scenario of an on-campus epidemic that could shut down production altogether.

News of Bryant’s death predictably rocked the N.B.A., which is filled with players who grew up watching Bryant as he won five championships with the Lakers and scored 81 points in a single game.
One of the few high schoolers who went straight to the N.B.A., he earned 18 All-Star selections, a regular-season Most Valuable Player Award in 2008 and two N.B.A. finals M.V.P. awards to go with his five championship rings and two Olympic gold medals, he increasingly became synonymous with the Lakers — the only team, despite a trade demand in 2007, that Bryant ever played for.
Bryant helped restore the Lakers to glory — albeit with no shortage of turmoil along the way.
With a drive to rival Jordan’s and an ability to tune out critics who at times assailed his ball dominance and shot selection, Bryant was the central and enduring figure in one of the most gripping soap operas in modern professional team sports.
By the time he walked away from the N.B.A. in April 2016, after an unforgettable 60-point farewell game against the Utah Jazz, Bryant had built an unmatched legacy that persuaded the Lakers to retire both jersey numbers he wore over two 10-season stretches: No. 8 and No. 24.
He had also been drawn back to the N.B.A. by his daughter Gianna’s love for it. On Dec. 29, Bryant sat with her courtside at Staples Center to watch the Lakers play the Dallas Mavericks.
“My friend, a legend, husband, father, son, brother, Oscar winner and greatest Laker of all-time is gone,” Magic Johnson, the Hall of Fame Lakers guard and Bryant’s boyhood hero, wrote on Twitter. “It’s hard to accept.”
Indeed, it is hard to accept.
Rest In Paradise.

Bryant, who died with his daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash on Sunday, was an unquestioned basketball great, but his legacy is not so straightforward.
