Net metering is a billing arrangement for on-grid rooftop solar where the electricity generated by your solar panels is used first in your home, and any surplus electricity is exported to the electricity grid.
How it works
☀️ Solar generates electricity during the day.
🏠 Your appliances use the solar power first.
⚡ Extra power is sent to the grid.
🔄 A bi-directional/net meter records both electricity imported from and exported to the grid.
🌙 When solar generation is insufficient, you import electricity from the grid.
🧾 At the end of the billing period, the exported units are adjusted against imported units according to the applicable DISCOM rules.
