The Deptt. Of Pediatrics SMGS Hospital, Govt. Medical College Jammu, in collaboration with Cankids...KidsCan an NGO working for Childhood Cancer organised New Year Celebration in the Pediatric Oncology ward on 30th December 2017. Prof. Dr. Sunanda Raina, Principal & Dean GMC Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event was organised under the overall supervision of Dr. Rekha Harish Prof. & Head, Deptt. Of Pediatrics. Dr. Sanjeev K. Digra, Associate Prof. & Consultant Incharge Pediatric Oncology Ward was the organising Secretary of the event. Dr. Sunanda Raina interacted with the children under treatment in Pediatric Cancer Ward and distributed gifts amongst them. On this occasion mementos as a token of gratitude were presented to Mr. Raju Goel, Mr. Puneet Arora, Mr. Gaurav Chopra and Mr. Rajesh Sharma for extending their generous support to the Pediatric Cancer Ward. Ms. Suruchi Sharma, Counsellor, and the Nursing staff Pediatric Cancer Ward, sisters Brij Bala, Suria, Ruksana and Anita were also appreciated for their services. Speaking on this occasion Dr. Sunanda Raina appreciated the work being done in Pediatric Cancer Ward. She also appreciated Cankids...KidsCan and the members of JK-Unity Trust for extending their help and support to this cause.
Pediatric Cancer Ward was established in the year 2014 with the support of Cankids...KidsCan. Since then more than 120 children with Cancer have been registered which include approx. 90 patients of Leukemia, 7 patients of Wilm’s Tumor, 6 patients of Hodgkins Lymphoma, 6 patients of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, 4 patients of Rhabdomyoscaroma and 2 patients of Retinoblastoma. These children are being provided treatment and investigations including chemotherapy, flo cytometry and minimal residual disease (MRD) free of cost with the support from CANKIDS.
Cankids…KidsCan is a registered charitable National Society that is dedicated to Change for Childhood Cancer in India. Cankids works on all aspects to enable best standards of treatment care and support services for children with cancer (age 0-21) and their families from the moment of diagnosis through treatment and after into survivorship on the one hand and palliative care, terminal and bereavement support on the other hand.
The other prominent persons present were Dpty. M.S Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal, Dr. Sunil Dutt Sharma, Dr. Javed Iqbal, Dr. Anuj Bhatti, Dr. Ajay Choudhary, Dr. Arun Gandotra, Dr. Ravi Parihar and Dr. Kaushal Khajuria.
