Smith College students wanted to know how you get enough protein from plants, and honestly, we loved showing them the answer. You don’t have to miss out on taste or satisfaction—plant-based food can be filling, flavorful, and packed with nutrition.
We went over some easy wins: think beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, nuts, and whole grains. These aren’t just “alternatives”—they make great meals. Once you see how simple it is to swap out animal products and still meet your protein needs, it all clicks. There’s no shortage of options, and they truly taste good.
We talked about how eating more plants does more than just fuel your workouts or keep you healthy. It’s good for the planet and better for animals, too. You get all those benefits without sacrificing what you love about food—plenty of flavors and variety.
It’s exciting to see students really thinking about how their choices affect their bodies, the environment, and animals. That kind of curiosity can change things. Seeing so much energy for protein-rich, compassionate eating was inspiring.
At the end of the day, eating plant-based protein isn’t about giving things up—it’s about opening the door to new flavors, new foods, and a more sustainable way of living.
