According to the Mahabharata, after the five Pandavas fought the Kurukshetra War to uphold righteousness and reclaim their rightful kingdom, countless lives were lost in the battle. As a result, they incurred the sin of killing, often referred to in tradition as Brahmahatya.

Lord Krishna advised the Pandavas that to seek forgiveness and free themselves from this sin, they should seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. They then began a journey into the Himalayas in search of Lord Shiva.

According to Hindu tradition, this route is associated with the Pandavas' final journey toward heaven, known as the Mahaprasthan or Swargarohini Yatra. It is believed that they passed through this path before ascending toward heaven.

Mana Village in Uttarakhand is known as the first village of India. According to Hindu tradition, this is the place where Sage Ved Vyasa dictated the Mahabharata, and Lord Ganesha wrote it down. It is believed that the Saraswati River was flowing with such great force that it disturbed the writing. Lord Ganesha requested Goddess Saraswati to reduce the noise and flow of the river. According to this traditional belief, the river then disappeared underground. This is why the sacred idol of Goddess Saraswati is worshipped here, and thousands of devotees visit the place to seek her blessings.
