Do I need GST to sell on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp?

As per section 9(5) of cgst act defines that sale made through a E-commerce operation should be compulsorily registered under GST
But here is a catch,
Since when instagram, whatsapp and facebook falls under E-commerce operation?
No, you do not need to register under GST if you are selling through instagram, whatsapp and facebook.
Ofcourse you will have to pay GST if your sale is interstate. It is also mandatory to register for GST for inter state sale of goods and services. There is no such limits in this case.
Individuals involved in selling products on social media would most likely be required to get themselves registered under GST.
The reason for this being, they receive orders from all over the country, as instragram is a global platform, and thus most of such sellers make inter-state sale.

Registration under GST is mandatory for all e-commerce operators

Registration under GST is mandatory for all e-commerce operators irrespective of the sales turnover. Within 30 days of commencing business, an e-commerce operator is required to get registered under GST.
There can be two types of e-commerce sellers:
• e-Commerce operators like Flipkart and Amazon; an entity that owns, operates or manages digital platform for e-commerce.
• e-Commerce suppliers; an entity that supplies goods or services on a digital e-commerce platform.
