Could GPUs become the next major infrastructure-finance asset?
That question is moving from theory toward real-world dealmaking.
Reuters, citing the FT, reported that Amazon is exploring a structure that would place about *$8 billion of NVIDIA Grace Blackwell chips* into a special-purpose vehicle and lease the hardware back. The reported transaction has not been publicly confirmed by Amazon or NVIDIA.
NVIDIA is pursuing the broader idea at much larger scale. Its partnerships with major capital providers are intended to mobilize more than *$500 billion in third-party capital* for AI infrastructure.
But lenders see a problem: GPUs can become outdated much faster than traditional infrastructure. That makes utilization, depreciation, customer contracts and future chip generations critical to determining what the hardware is actually worth.
India is moving along a related path. Axis Bank reportedly wants to roughly double its data-centre exposure over three years, while IndiaAI’s shared-compute program had surpassed *45,000 GPUs* by June.
So the AI race is becoming about more than models and chips. It is increasingly about financing the enormous infrastructure underneath them.
Do you think GPU-backed financing becomes a durable market—or does rapid hardware depreciation make it too risky?
