Saffron (Kesar) is a spice/herb from the Crocus sativus flower. It is believed that saffron gets its name from an Arabic word Zaffran. Right from Europe to Asia to North America to the Indian subcontinent, Kesar has paved its way through various cultures and timelines and has been used for thousands of years.
While Kesar is cultivated in many countries including Spain, China, Iran but Kashmiri Kesar is being talked as the best Kesar as per Ayurveda & Unani.
While it has multiple applications and benefits, today we would be covering it from HEALTH perspective.
Saffron contains numerous health-promoting properties including Crocin, Safranal, Crocetin, Picrococin. It also has large amounts of the following minerals Calcium, Potassium, Iron to name a few.
Kesar boosts immunity when consumed on consistent basis and have been regularly used in preparation of Chyawanprash and other health supplements. It helps in fighting seasonal ailments.
Kesar is also useful in improving the complexion of skin by mixing with Honey or Milk.
Kesar is also known for boosting energy, primarily due to the rich minerals present.
The active constituents in saffron have antidepressant and antianxiety properties comparable to certain standard medications, including Fluoxetine, Imipramine, Citalopram. Many studies across the world have indicated that people have benefited on regular use of Kesar and reported very less side effects when used in correct quantities.
Saffron may also increase s*x drive and s*xual function in both males and females.
It is also believed to have memory booster properties and have been commonly used with Milk & Almond for the same.
