Cognitive Advisory Services LLP

Cognitive Advisory Services LLP CAS was floated by a group of professionals with a collective experience of more than 100 years who are experts in their respective fields.

Cognitive Advisory Services LLP (CAS) is an entrepreneurial venture, set up in 2014, with core strengths in the realms of corporate finance, governance, risk & compliance and, other financial advisory services. CAS was floated with the primary intention of providing a broad range of business advisory services to organisations, especially in the small and medium enterprise segments where there is a

dearth of affordable advisory services, in the markets that we operate in. CAS has its corporate office based currently in Cochin, Kerala; however, we attempt to provide services to clients through a network of strategic partnerships in other cities, who mirror our values of providing quality services and also, bring on board varied skill sets. This enables us to maintain skill sets and organization structures that are cost effective in delivering services for our clients without compromising on quality.

Frauds in business

A well run company with good controls established by the management / business owner can prevent frauds. Although when a fraud happens it is the auditor who is always blamed, the actual problem starts when the preparers of accounts and financial statements assist in the fraud.

Establishing good controls is a must for any business to succeed. Use the help of Cognitive Advisory Services to review your business to establish best practices in governance, compliance and risk management.

There are many links in the chain responsible for prevention as well detection of frauds. Auditors, however, have always found themselves at the centrestage whenever it comes to fixing accountability and liability for occurrence of frauds.

The global internet traffic in 1992 was approximately 100GB per day…by 2021, the traffic is expected to touch 105,800GB per second. That is an astounding 91milllion times increase in under 3 decades!

Given the current situation with the pandemic, no prizes for guessing that the dependence of businesses on digital channels is going to increase exponentially. However,

#1 Is going online merely a kneejerk reaction or a well thought out strategy?
#2 How will you identify, reach out to and convert customers when you are online?
#3 Have you predicted customer behaviour in an evolving situation?
#4 How robust is your business model in evolving with the ongoing situation?

Charles Tremper famously said “The first step in the risk management process is to acknowledge the reality of risk. Denial is a common tactic that substitutes deliberate ignorance for thoughtful planning.” What then does it take for an entrepreneur to embark on a journey of thoughtful planning and informed decision making?

In the second of our multi-part series on Risk Management, our mentor Vivek Shenoy, takes us through the risk management process in brief, setting the tone for a deeper dive into the subject.

As Thomas Paine said in a different context, no doubt that these are times that try men’s souls indeed. However, businesses which had embedded risk management in all that they did were better prepared to face the fallout from the pandemic. Is it too late to embrace the culture of identifying, measuring and managing risk?

In the first of a series of articles, our mentor, Vivek Shenoy writes on our blog on the importance of risk management.

Where others see crisis, see opportunity!

We are living in a world of uncertainty. Even in these challenging times, we have a choice; behave like a deer frozen in the headlights, or, plot our own course. We will give you 3 Ps to implement.

– No doubt that the situation that all of us find ourselves is extraordinary. We may feel helpless. Being fatalistic is the worst thing you can do today. Remember that the world has seen and outlived many crises. Layer everything you do with liberal doses of positivity. This too shall pass.

–We all have been reactive… what if my decision goes wrong? If I do nothing, maybe everything will turn out right. Wrong choice. How has this situation impacted the way I do business, how things will change for me and what are the new ways I can do business? IF ever inaction was not a choice, it is NOW!

– Once you determine your course of action in the new world order, it is time to break your plan down into small elements - “The devil lies in the detail”. How are you going to execute your plan? When are you going to execute? Do you have adequate resources – people, technology, cash? How are you going to influence and measure progress?

Speak to your friends from the business community, people who have seen and experienced business in multiple industries and geographies, people who can motivate you, hold your hand and guide you, professionally or personally. Thinking right during this time will be extremely rewarding, financially and in terms of self-accomplishment.
