PROJECT: MELANGE – BAKESTAURANT, KOCHI 2020

A cafe is defined as a restaurant that serves coffee or tea with light refreshments such as baked goods or snacks. It started as a 90’s French concept where people come together to read, work or socialize over light food and beverages.

Mélange is a small cafe placed in a corner of Kochi, facing a busy business area's major street. The 550-square-foot cafe serves as the building's front façade, complementing a restaurant and its kitchen. The double-height space and full-glass facade facing the south let in plenty of indirect light while providing a clear view of the space from the outside. The aim was to establish a visually open and inviting presence while maintaining privacy of the customers using landscape.

The cafe's design is influenced by tropical modernism, with a minimalist approach to the aesthetics of its interiors. The space is separated into three sections:

Cane basket lamp shades acquired from a local artisan were used to light the main interior space.

The outside area, which is bordered by a strip of landscape, not only brings the customers close to nature but also serves as a privacy screen from the street.

Finally, there's the loft, the third dining space tucked away in a mezzanine floor above that provides a quiet nook of privacy.

The combination of exposed brick walls, metal supports, and the custom wooden & steel furniture in the interiors and the surrounding landscape transports the user to a rustic French cafe.

For their India office, we designed a space keeping in mind a modern aesthetic while integrating landscape into the space. Our objective was to create a transparent and open workspace that mirrored the atmosphere in their other global offices.

PROJECT: DINESH RESIDENCE, CHERTHALA, 2016

A farm house on a 60-cent plot in Cherthala was built as a retirement home for a family of 4. This 2800 square foot home is surrounded by beautiful landscaping, providing a strong sense of connection to nature.

Large openings on the façade and a courtyard in the middle bring in ample quantities on sunlight and ventilation into the house. The Plot comes with an existing pond and the swimming pool at the back brings in an element of water into the space.

Located at Kaloor this is a 3bhk apartment with a carpet area of 1700 sqft. We designed a cozy apartment for a family of four by incorporating elements of wood, exposed bricks and strategic lighting in order to bring a lot of warmth into the house. The balcony is converted into a wide planter box with tall, lush plants which facilitated a feel of nature into the house and also with a deliberate attempt to create a wall of privacy as this apartment is located on the first floor of the building. We created spaces to showcase their collection of artworks with also an attempt to use its lighting to create a viable setting for hosting events.

PROJECT : ROTARY PUBLIC TOILET, KOCHI, 2017

This project focuses on the redevelopment of an existing public toilet at Thoppumpady junction, Kochi. The client aimed at providing a structure that can facilitate better quality and a clean toilet.

Exposed bricks are employed on the outer façade of this concept, and the jaali openings on the top controlled the temperature while also allowing air circulation into the space.

The Attic is a resto-bar in Bangalore's commercial district that is designed as a semi-open space with a street view. There also is a stage for music and entertainment, as well as a bar.

Customers who desire a more private dining experience can sit in the cabana seating placed along the edge of the space. Stone and wood are the main elements of this area, which are meant to evoke the impression of an rustic English attic. Warm colour lighting and bursts of landscape in specific sections gives the space a quaint and cozy atmosphere.

PROJECT : PENTHOUSE 303, BTM, BANGALORE, 2016

This is a 2bhk penthouse with a 1200 sq ft area which we converted into a bachelor pad for our client. Considering the strategic location by the BTM lake, we decided to go for an open planning in order to capitalize all the views possible of the lake from the house and we also bore in mind the hosting requirements of our client. With that, we replaced the wall to the bedroom with a collapsible door in order to open up the space when the client needed to accommodate more guests. We also had a balcony running its course alongside the entire side of the apartment facing the lake. This balcony space which combined with the open plan, made the house more spacious and seamless with the view of the lake.

PROJECT: SKY CAFE, MG ROAD, COCHIN 2015

Sky Café is designed as a recreational and dining space for a co-working office situated on MG Road, Kochi. It is placed on the terrace of a 13 storeyed building which gives the site an amazing 180 degree view of the city scape and the Arabian Sea to the West.

The space is broken down into a casual area where the staff could come to unwind and a second area is demarcated for informal meetings. And these two spaces are separated by a strip of landscape. Elements of metal, brick, cement and wood have been incorporated into the design to provide a simple and rustic aesthetic finish.

A small bistro tucked into a semi basement of a building in Kaloor was the canvas that we had to work with.

We conceptualized the space bearing in mind, the limited area to work with yet to maintain privacy between table and the outside. The height difference from the exterior was compensated by adding platforms at different levels each having its own seating.

Elements like a book shelf, chalk board wall and movie poster wall were added to bring in a dynamic aesthetic to the space.

PROJECT : FASHION BOUTIQUE

A small site in the heart of the city was to be converted in a designer boutique for an upcoming fashion designer.

The display area was surrounded by other functions which prevented any scope to provide openings to allow the exchange of fresh air into the space.

A vertical garden inside provides a certain level of air purification inside and also acts are a dynamic backdrop for the display area.
