A Journey from Tailoring to Global Recognition:
Traditionally people of Metiabruz engaged themselves as tailors. They had to participate different Haat (Weekly Market) with their materials made from home. Later embroidery knowledge & creative mind push them into garments business. In 1982, there was a devastating fire in Howrah Haat. That was the turning point of Metiabruz and its fame in India and abroad during British period, their ancestors had to go even Fort William for tailoring. British women participate in many fashion shows by wearing cloth made of Metiabruz. At present, readymade garments exports not only in our country but also in Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and African countries. On the other hand, the environmental conditions of Howrah Haat were very unhealthy and insecure. After the formation of Jabbar, ABM and Janata Haat a large number of business community across the country participated here.
Striving for Excellence:
Metiabruz Bangla Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Traders Welfare Association (BRGMTWA), under the leadership of Janab Shahjahan Ali Molla as President and Janab Alimgir Fakir as Secretary, with major apparel makers as its members, have preserved its century long apparel manufacturing legacy and became one of major local job creators as well as revenue earners for West Bengal, at a time when West Bengal desperately needs to create mass jobs and business earnings.
It is an industry body of readymade garment manufacturers, exporters, and traders from Metiabruz, which plays a significant role in the country's economy. Since decades, the association has been working towards promoting the growth and development of the industry, addressing common challenges, and advocating for the welfare of the industry stakeholders.
