Last week, we were privileged to be part of "Solving for the Transition Challenge", a national dialogue on enabling women-led transition pathways towards natural farming among climate-vulnerable smallholder farmers organized by Swayam Shikshan Prayog - SSP in Viswa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi.

The central question of the day was why farmers who already know the value of natural farming still hesitate to adopt it. The answer that emerged: awareness is not the gap. The gap is a credible, low-risk way to begin.

The dialogue took up this challenge in two parts:
🔹 From Awareness to Adoption: what it will take to scale natural farming among smallholder farmers
🔹 Women as Catalysts of Change: how women's leadership can accelerate and sustain the transition

We were grateful to hear from Shri Charanjit Singh (Former Additional Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India), Dr Shraman Jha (CEO, Hindustan Unilever Foundation) and Shri T. Vijay Kumar, IAS (Former Special Chief Secretary and Advisor, GOVERNMENT OF ANDHRA PRADESH). We also heard from Amit Khurana (Centre for Science and Environment), Abhijeet S. Kamble (PoCRA: Nanaji Deshmukh Krushi Sanjivani Prakalp,Mumbai), Avimuktesh Bhardwaj (Back to Village), Suranjana Gupta(Huairou Commission), Dr Paavani Sachdeva(Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW)), and the women farmer leaders whose lived experience anchored every conversation.

There are marigolds on our keyboard this morning.

Today is Vishwakarma Puja. Across India, lathe, looms, trucks and laptops are being cleaned, oiled, checked and garlanded. The one day in the year when the tool gets the attention instead of the output.

A tool treated purely as a means gets run until it fails. A tool treated as worth something gets looked after.

Every organisation on earth counts its output. Far fewer consider the condition of the thing producing it: the equipment, the systems, the judgment, the people.

It is a maintenance ritual dressed as a festival. And it is good practice.

Before the war, as the story goes, Duryodhana chose Krishna's army. Arjuna chose Krishna.

One of them got a hundred thousand soldiers. The other got an unarmed man to drive his chariot, and who, from that seat, could see the whole field.

There is something in that choice for anyone who advises for a living. The advisor does not fire the arrow. They do not win the battle, and the credit for it belongs elsewhere. What they bring is the vantage point: the ability to see the ground, the flanks, and the light, and to say where you should be standing before it begins.

Arjuna was the finest archer alive. What he lacked, in the moment that mattered, was not skill. It was clarity.

Earlier this week, Re-emerging World had the privilege of co-facilitating a capacity-building workshop with Swayam Shikshan Prayog - SSP for its partner network advancing Women-led Climate Resilient Farming across India.
Partners explored the model’s design principles, farming process mapping, and implementation strategies in an interactive classroom setting, followed by a field visit to witness adoption journeys firsthand. The workshop concluded with hands-on planning sessions where participants charted how they will replicate the model in their own geographies.
Together, we are building pathways to scale sustainable, women-led farming practices nationwide.
