However, a decline in performance resulted in a two-year hiatus from international cricket, during which she unfortunately missed the 2001 Ashes tour. In 2003, she made her comeback to the team for the series against England.

Alan Ward, a fast bowler from Derbyshire, was born on 10th August 1947. During England's tour of Australia in 1970-71, their captain, Ray Illingworth, proudly announced his opening bowling partnership of Ward and John Snow.

Hamilton Masakadza was born on 9th August 1983. In 2001 he became the youngest player to score a century on his Test debut, a record he held for just over a month before it was surpassed by Mohammad Ashraful. A year later, Masakadza paused his cricket career to pursue his studies, but the players' strike in 2004 led to his recall by the selectors.

In 2009, he achieved over 1000 runs in ODIs with an average of 43.48 and a strike rate of 88.08, including remarkable scores of 156 and 178 not out during the home series against Kenya, marking the first instance of a player scoring 150 or more twice in a single one-day series.

He celebrated Zimbabwe's return to Test cricket in 2011 with a century against Bangladesh. Three years later, he recorded his highest Test score of 158, also against Bangladesh.

Masakadza was appointed as Zimbabwe's captain in January 2016, but his initial term lasted only four months as the board decided to dismiss him following a disappointing World T20.

Despite being in and out of the limited-overs teams, he was reappointed as captain in 2018. He announced his retirement a year later and subsequently took on the position of director of cricket for Zimbabwe.

The talented and legend of New Zealand batter Kane Williamson was born on 8th August 1990, and made a remarkable century on his Test debut in Ahmedabad in 2010. Two years later, he achieved a match-saving hundred against a formidable South African bowling attack, batting for five and a half hours to finish with an unbeaten 102.

In 2014, he accumulated 413 runs across three Tests against the West Indies, including a crucial second-innings score of 161 in Providence that contributed to a rare away series victory.

Later that same year, he scored 192 in a 297-run partnership with Brendon McCullum, which helped level the series against Pakistan. Just three innings later, he recorded a career-best 242 not out and set a record with BJ Watling for the sixth wicket, amassing 365 runs against Sri Lanka in Wellington.

In 2016, Williamson succeeded Brendon McCullum as the captain of New Zealand. From March 2017 to March 2019, he played 14 Tests, averaging 70 with five fifties and five centuries, one of which was pivotal in a series-clinching victory in Abu Dhabi.

Williamson also showcased his skills during the 2019 World Cup, leading a commendable campaign that ultimately fell short when New Zealand tied the final (and the subsequent Super Over) against England but lost on boundary count.

Two years later, he guided New Zealand to victory in the inaugural World Test Championship and reached the final of the T20 World Cup. Although he stepped down from the Test captaincy in late 2022, he continued to excel in the format, averaging over 70 and scoring eight centuries, four of which were double-hundreds, between December 2020 and December 2023.

His two second-innings hundreds were instrumental in thrilling back-to-back victories—one by a single run against England after following on in Wellington and another by two wickets against Sri Lanka in Christchurch.

His century against South Africa propelled New Zealand to the 2025 Champions Trophy final, but they were unable to overcome India to secure the title.
