"Kolkata pays less."
We hear this constantly. From candidates. From hiring managers comparing notes.
So let's put actual numbers on it.
Entry-level BPO salaries across three cities in 2026:
Voice Support (International Process)
Kolkata: ₹14,000 – ₹20,000
Hyderabad: ₹16,000 – ₹22,000
Pune: ₹17,000 – ₹23,000
Technical Support L1
Kolkata: ₹15,000 – ₹22,000
Hyderabad: ₹18,000 – ₹25,000
Pune: ₹18,000 – ₹26,000
Non-Voice / Back Office
Kolkata: ₹10,000 – ₹16,000
Hyderabad: ₹12,000 – ₹17,000
Pune: ₹12,000 – ₹18,000
Yes — Kolkata pays 10–15% less on paper.
But here's what those numbers don't show:
→ Rent in Kolkata is 35–45% lower than Hyderabad or Pune
→ Commute costs are significantly lower
→ A ₹16,000 salary in Kolkata often leaves more in pocket than ₹20,000 in Pune
For candidates deciding where to build a career — the gross number is only half the story.
For employers — Kolkata's cost structure lets you offer competitive real-world value without matching metro salary levels.
The city is underpriced on paper. Not in reality.
