Design, at its most honest, is not a single act of creation —
it is a quiet cycle of undoing, rethinking, and becoming.

To design is to question what you just drew.
To redraw is to admit there is a better way waiting beneath.
And somewhere between instinct and analysis,
design thinking begins to breathe —
not as a process, but as a discipline of empathy, logic, and restraint.
Every constraint becomes a voice:
site, cost, climate, material, time.
Not limitations — but boundaries that give form to intelligence.
And then, we invite the machine in.
Not to replace us —
but to explore what we cannot exhaust.

Thousands, millions of iterations…
each testing, balancing, negotiating trade-offs
between what is desirable, feasible, and sustainable.
Multi-objective optimization doesn’t just search for answers —
it reveals tensions:
cost vs performance,
density vs livability,
efficiency vs experience.

And in navigating these tensions,
design evolves from expression to resolution.
What emerges is not just “a design” —
but the most resolved version of an idea within its universe of constraints.
And that moment —
when you revisit your own work, refined beyond your first imagination…
when the noise of options collapses into clarity —
You don’t feel like you created it.

You feel like you arrived at it.

Standing there — composed, certain —
an architect who has negotiated with complexity
and earned simplicity.

A quiet authority.
A design that is cost-wise for the client,
and conscious for the planet.

Not louder.
Just… right.

Internship in BIM and Factory Design (For Freshers - Architects & Structural Designers)

I. Program Overview

This internship program provides recent graduates in architecture and structural engineering with the opportunity to gain practical experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and designing industrial facilities. Through a combination of classroom training, real-world projects, and mentorship, participants will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the field of BIM-driven factory design.

II. Learning Objectives

Understand the fundamental principles of BIM and its applications in factory design.
Proficiency in using BIM software (e.g., Revit) for creating and managing 3D models of industrial facilities.
Develop an understanding of building codes and regulations relevant to factory construction.
Gain experience in collaborating with other disciplines involved in factory design (e.g., mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers).
Apply BIM tools to generate construction documents, such as drawings and schedules.
Enhance communication and teamwork skills through project-based learning.

III. Syllabus

Week 1-2: Introduction to BIM

What is BIM?
Benefits of using BIM in factory design
BIM workflows and best practices
Introduction to BIM software (e.g., Revit)

Week 3-4: Building Components and Modeling

Creating and modifying walls, floors, roofs, and other building elements
Applying building materials and finishes
Using families and components for efficient modeling

Week 5-6: Collaboration and Coordination

Working with linked models from other disciplines (e.g., structural and MEP)
Clash detection and resolution
Design coordination meetings

Week 7-8: Introduction to Factory Design

Types of industrial buildings
Functional considerations for factory layouts
Building codes and regulations for factories

Week 9-10: Applying BIM to Factory Design

Modeling building elements specific to factories (e.g., production lines, equipment)
Creating construction documentation for factories (e.g., shop drawings)
Generating quantity takeoffs and schedules

Week 11-12: Internship Project

Participants will be assigned to a real-world factory design project under the guidance of experienced professionals.
They will apply the skills learned in the training to contribute to the project, such as model creation, documentation generation, and collaboration with other team members.

IV. Internship

The internship component of the program will take place following the completion of the training modules. Interns will be placed with a design firm or construction company specializing in industrial facilities, where they will gain hands-on experience working on real projects under the supervision of experienced professionals.

http://www.claisse.info/2016%20papers/S268.pdf

The paper explores ways and means of incentive-ising and implementing GREEN building retrofits for Residential sector, in the Tier I & II cities of India. The central government has introduced several initiatives that find specific mention in India’s INDCs as instruments for combating climate change. Including both, voluntary GREEN rating schemes and mandates for ENERGY Conservation. Significant fiscal allocations from the government and multilateral funds have been earmarked. However, there remains a disconnect between intent and reality in terms of implement-ability, willingness and a certain sluggishness in the system. While an overwhelming mandatory regime will be debilitating for a developing economy and be met with great resistance, a combination of incentive-isation and an enabling legal-fiscal environment targeting low hanging fruits initially and with progressively increasing stringency, could achieve broader acceptability with far reaching results. This paper further builds on the
premise that green or sustainable design, cannot be viewed as just a building mandate or bye law but rather an economically sustainable lifestyle choice, and hence to incentive-ise this drive, will develop it as a social and cultural movement.
