My affair with shares began almost forty years ago when I was a student with very little money to spare. Stock markets in India were still to come of age. Thanks to the covid induced lockdowns and the consequent work from home of the children, one phrase I often heard them use during their phone calls was ‘stepping back’. A very common phrase used by consultants to suggest that one stops being actively involved in something so as to be able to think with a new perspective. This term however has great use in general life also, especially in times of problems, where we tend to become obsessed with a problem which seems unsurmountable....
