14 OBJECTIONS. 10 MONTHS. ONE ELECTORAL-ROLL EXERCISE.
Two Election Commissioners — Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi — reportedly placed objections on record at least 14 times over a 10-month period concerning decisions connected to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The reported objections covered issues including:
→ voter registration
→ deletion/restoration of names
→ Form 6
→ electoral-roll database access
→ IT systems
→ administrative orders
The Election Commission has since said that its decisions, including those related to SIR, were unanimous, describing the commissioners’ inputs as part of the normal decision-making process.
One particularly significant dispute concerned the online version of Form 6, where a new declaration sought information about an applicant’s or their parents’/grandparents’ presence in the previous SIR roll.
And in Bihar’s 2025 SIR, 3.66 lakh names were deleted between the draft and final electoral rolls, while 21.53 lakh electors were added. The Supreme Court sought details of those 3.66 lakh exclusions.
