hiepiscopal Archdeacon Pilgrim Church, Kuravilangad, has etched her name in the academia of Kerala by establishing two High Schools and two LP schools in the latter half of the 18th century and a Higher Secondary School in 1998. Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad was Re-Accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in September 2011 and is an ISO 9000- 2008 certified First Grade Aided Minority College. Affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, it is recognized under section 2(f) and 12 B of the UGC Act 1956. The great visionaries, H.E.Mar Sebastian Vayalil, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Palai and Rev. Paul Alappattu, the then Vicar of Major Archiepiscopal Marth Mariam Archdeacon Pilgrim Church Kuravilangad, who spearheaded the founding of the college, had in their minds the glorious task of dispelling darkness and spreading the light of true wisdom all round, irrespective of caste, creed, language or religion through the dissemination of knowledge and other skills that would mould the young generation into exemplary citizens well equipped to face the challeges of the times. True to its vision and mission, the college today has emerged as a knowledge hub and a leading centre of academic excellence, educating and transforming thousands of students who hail from a purely Agrarian, Rural background. Situated in a rural milieu, in the heart of a minority community, the college aims at academic excellence in all spheres of learning, providing intellectual, moral, social, cultural and spiritual guidance to the young generation with a view to making them God-fearing, patriotic, altruistic and self-confident in life. The college is currently guided by the able leadership of H.E. Bishop Rt. Dr. Joseph Kallarangattu as its patron, Archpriest Very Rev. Dr. Augustine Koottiyaniyil as its Manager and Dr. Sunil C. Mathew as the Principal. Located at (9.756, 76.564) Kuravilangad, in Kottayam District on a lush green sprawiling Eco-friendly campus of 12.5 acres/ 56585sq.mts, the college houses 10 Post-Graduate Programmes and 12 Graduate Programmes and 5 other academic departments. The College conducts 3 UGC aided ADD-ON Courses and 8 job-oriented certificate courses. All the departments offer UGC sponsored remedial enrichment programmes for weak students and the Quality Circle established by the College render yeoman service in coaching the academically bright to meet the demands of the globalised market economy. Coaching for UGC/JRF/NET/Civil Service examinations is provided by all the P.G. departments. The college offers training in GD, interview skills, personality development programmes and placement assistance through the Career and Placement Cell of our College. The college has distinguished itself in research and consultancy activities. Out of the fifty nine permanent teachers 25 hold Ph.D and 29 hold M.Phil. degrees and many are pursuing research towards Ph.D. Further, there are fifteen full time teachers and five visiting professors for Self-Financing courses. The total entrollment of the college during 2011 – 2012 is 1303 including 909 women. Out of the total strength 86% belong to minority OBC, OEC & SC/ST. It is worth highlighting that 99% of our students come from rural, agrarian backgrounds. Fourteen Research Scholars carry out research in the Department of Malayalam, which became an approved Research Centre known as ‘Nidhirickal Manikathanar Research Centre’ in 2004, under the guidance of four Research Guides. Over the years the college has bagged 50 University Ranks, several distinctions (80% & above), numorous first classes (60% & above) and the pass percentage in UG and PG is not less than 90 percent throughout. Three of our Post-Graduate Departments received UGC Grant for PG development to the tune of 13 lakhs during the 11th plan period, besides a UG development grant of Rs 8.67 lakhs.
