Boxco Logistics handles heaviest single consignment at New Mangalore Port:

Boxco Logistics has successfully handled the heaviest single consignment over-dimension cargo thus far at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT). The logistics for the carriage of the cargo to the port premises from the manufacturing plant was provided by Boxco Logistics, Mangaluru. The cargo was loaded on board the MV D**g Bang Giant 2, headed for Apapa Port in Lagos, Nigeria, said a release.

The 1,290-tonne column, manufactured by Phils Heavy Engineering Fabricators in Baikampady Industrial Area, is meant for utilisation in a petroleum refinery in Nigeria. The giant column was brought on a 56-axle, 448-wheel self-propelling truck to the port premises after one carriageway of NH 66 was made clear for the movement of the vehicle.

The cargo was rolled on to the barge at Berth No. 14 after the barge was lowered to the level of the berth using ballast water.

The barge was said to be the first Mediterranean moor over-dimension vessel to call at the port, said a report.

MOL takes delivery of first next-generation car carrier:

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced the delivery of the first car carrier of the next-generation "FLEXIE" series, the Beluga Ace, which was built at the Minaminippon Shipbuilding Co. in Japan.

The new vessel marks a major advance in functionality, with six liftable decks, compared to two on conventional car carriers. This allows the Beluga Ace to more effectively meet demand for more diversified vehicle and high and heavy cargo transport.

With length of 199.9 m and breadth 32.2 m, the vessel has capacity of 6,800 units (standard passenger vehicles).

The hull design is a complete departure from current car carriers, boldly presenting "MOL" and the letter "A", representing a global brand of "MOL ACE (MOL Auto Carrier Express)", and a white line, which expresses the company’s determination to connect its long history of customer service to the future in a seamless manner.

The rounded bow shape will minimise wind resistance and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 2 per cent compared to today’s car carriers. The new shape is the result of joint research by MOL, MOL Techno-Trade Ltd and Akishima Laboratories. It is one of the environmental impact-reducing technologies developed in the MOL Group’s "ISHIN NEXT-MOL SMART SHIP PROJECT".

MOL has expanded car carrier services all over the world with the goal of maintaining its position as the front-runner in vehicle transport, having launched the first car carrier in Japan in 1965. The group consistently provides its customers with high-quality services by setting the world’s highest standards of safe operation and environmental conservation. MOL’s state-of-the-art fleet continually adopts new designs to meet demands for transport of not only completed cars, but also diversified cargoes such as construction machinery and railway vehicles under its MOL ACE global brand of car carrier transport service, said a release.
