A patient has undergone a right-side mastectomy. On which arm should the nurse measure the blood pressure?

A. Right brachial
B. Left brachial
C. Right radial
D. Left radial

Answer:

B. Left brachial

Explanation:

After a right-side mastectomy, especially if lymph nodes were removed, procedures such as blood pressure measurement, IV insertion, injections, or blood draws should be avoided on the affected (right) side to prevent lymphedema.
Therefore, blood pressure should be taken on the left brachial arm.
