Shaheed Jathedar Gurdev Singh Kaunke
In the Jagraon District of Punjab is a very blessed village called Kaunke. The Master of Miri Piri, Sahib Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji blessed this village stating the diamonds would be born from this village. Guru Ji stated this when he rested at the village on his journey to the Sind region. When he stayed at Kaunke village, one of its resident Gursikhs, Bhai Hira Ji did keertan seva. Guru Ji was very moved by the keertan and at this point stated in a ‘Bachan’ that many more diamonds would be born here.

So it happened, aswell as Bhai Hira Ji, Sardar Sham Singh Attari, the Great Mata Kishen Kaur Kaunke, Bhai Gurdev Singh Kaunke, and many countless young Gursikhs who have given all to the Sikh struggle, all were born in the village Kaunke.

ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 13 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1780 ਨੂੰ ਗੁਜਰਾਂਵਾਲਾ (ਹਾਲ ਦਾ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ) ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਹ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਮਹਾਂ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੁੱਕਰਚੱਕੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਇਕਲੌਤੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਸਨ। ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਬਚਪਨ ਇੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।ਉਹਨੂੰ ਚਮੜੀ ਦਾ ਚੇਚਕ ਰੋਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ।

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਿੰਮਤੀ, ਤੇਜ਼ਤਰਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦਾਦਿਲ ਬੱਚਾ ਸੀ। ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਘੋੜਸਵਾਰੀ, ਬਾਜ਼ੀਗਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ। ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਦੀ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੌਸਲਾ, ਦਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਪਾਈਆਂ।
ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਆਗੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ-ਏ-ਪੰਜਾਬ ਬਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਲਤਨਤ ਦਾ ਨੀਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ। Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji was born on November 13, 1780, in Gujranwala (present-day Pakistan). He was the only child of Sardar Maha Singh Sukerchakia and Mata Raj Kaur. Maharaja Sahib Ji’s childhood was not very easy. He contracted smallpox, due to which he lost the vision in one of his eyes.

Despite these challenges, Ranjit Singh was a very brave, sharp-minded, and lively child. From a young age, he began learning horseback riding, weapon skills, and the art of warfare. His mother and grandmother instilled in him the values of courage, compassion, and justice.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji later became known as the “Lion of Punjab” and laid the foundation of the Sikh Empire.

ਸਵਰਗਵਾਸੀ ਸਤਿਕਾਰਯੋਗ ਬਾਬਾ ਜੋਗਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ 20ਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਰਨੈਲ ਦਮਦਮੀ ਟਕਸਾਲ ਦੇ 14ਵੇਂ ਮੁਖੀ ਸੰਤ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਭਿੰਡਰਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਰਾ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਹਰਚਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੋਡੇ ਅੱਜ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਨਵੰਬਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਲਗਭਗ 6:30 ਵਜੇ ਸਵਰਗਵਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਧਾਰੀ ਨਿਤਨੇਮੀ ਤੇ ਉਦਮੀ ਸਨ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੱਲ ਦੋ ਨਵੰਬਰ ਸਵੇਰੇ 11 ਵਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੱਦੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਰੋਡੇ ਜ਼ਿਲਾ ਮੋਗਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾOur respected Baba Joginder Singh Ji’s son, and the elder brother of the great 20th-century Sikh general, 14th head of Damdami Taksal, Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, Captain Harcharan Singh Rode, passed away today, November 1st, at around 6:30 in the morning.

He remained fully active in Sikh politics and the Sikh struggle, and he was an Amritdhari, Nitnemi, and hardworking individual who always participated in the Panth with chardi kala (high spirits).

His final rites will be performed tomorrow, November 2nd, at 11 a.m. in his ancestral village, Rode, district Moga.

ਸਮੂਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਹੁਣ ਹੀ ਦੇਈਏ, ਨਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਣਹੋਣੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਪੋਸਟਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਦਾਅਵੇ ਕਰੀਏ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਫੌਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀ।

A humble request at the feet of the entire Sikh congregation: let us support Bhai Sahib now, rather than waiting for some unfortunate incident to occur and then filling social media with posts and claims that we had great love for the soldier and that he was such a noble Singh.

ਅੱਜ ਪੰਥ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਨ ਹੈ । ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪਿੰਡ ਪੂਹਲਾ ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਤਰਨਤਾਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਸਨੀਕ ਸਨ । ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੋਤ ਸੰਧੂ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ । ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹਗੀਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਲੰਗਰ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਭੈਣ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਹਗੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ । ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਹੌਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੜਕ ਤੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਹਰ ਮੁਸਾਫ਼ਿਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਠਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਈ ਸੁੱਖਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਿਤਾਬ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਮੱਸੇ ਰੰਘੜ ਦਾ ਸੋਧਾ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਜਕਰੀਆ ਖਾਨ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖੁਰਾ-ਖੋਜ ਮਿਟਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਖਾ ਲਈ । ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁਖ਼ਬਰ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ । ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਕਿ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਣ ਕਿ ਮੁਖਬਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ । ਜਕਰੀਆ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਦੀ ਕਚਿਹਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਖਪਤ ਰਾਏ ਹੀ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸੀ । ਸੋ ਮੁਖਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਮੁਖਬਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਮਨ ਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਲਹੌਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਜਕਰੀਏ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਫਤਿਹ ਗਜਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਕਰੀਆ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਅੱਗ ਬਬੂਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉੱਥੇ ਲਖਪਤ ਰਾਏ ਵੀ ਤੜਪ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਸੀ । ਜਕਰੀਆ ਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਚਰਖੜੀ ਤੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਸਵਾਸਾਂ ਸੰਗ ਨਿਭ ਜਾਵੇ । ਏਨਾ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਜਕਰੀਆ ਖ਼ਾਨ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਸ ਵੱਧ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਇਹਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਕਤਲ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਣ । ਉਸਨੇ ਨਾਈ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਏ , ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਨਾ ਪਵੇ । ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਕੇਸ ਨਹੀਂ । ਜਕਰੀਆ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਸਾਈ ਦੱਸੋ ਇਸਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕੱਟੋ ਕਿ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਣ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਭਾਵ ਖੋਪਰ ਹੀ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਿਓ । ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਲਾਦ ਰੱਸਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਾਂ ਤੁਸੀ ਰੱਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿਓ ਜੋ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਦਿਓ ।

Sikhism is a globally respected religion today.
Across the world, our faith is increasingly recognized and appreciated for its core values of equality, service, and compassion. As Sikhs, we do not believe in religious conversion. Instead, we honor and respect all faiths. Anyone, regardless of their religion or background, is always welcome in our Gurudwara Sahib, where they are treated as equals, can sit with us, and share a free meal (langar). We serve humanity without discrimination — but we never ask or pressure anyone to change their religion.

Wherever Sikhs live, they contribute positively to society.
Whether it’s during natural disasters or times of crisis, Sikhs around the world are known for stepping forward to help anyone in need — selflessly and wholeheartedly.

We sincerely appreciate Mr. Brian Tamaki for recognizing the Sikh community during his protest. Though we are a small community in terms of numbers, seeing our Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) represented made me feel proud and grateful — to both Mr. Tamaki and Waheguru (God). Everyone has the right to protect their faith and culture, and we stand by that principle.

In our homeland of Punjab, we too face challenges related to forced or incentivized religious conversions.
Certain groups, particularly Christian missionaries, have been known to offer money or material support to economically weak and emotionally vulnerable individuals to convert them. This raises deep ethical concerns, as faith should never be bought or sold. True belief must come from the heart — not from financial desperation. If someone changes their religion only for money today, they may do so again tomorrow for more money. This undermines the very essence of spiritual truth.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

The Prime Minister of India is scheduled to attend the G7 Summit, and many members of the Sikh community around the world are deeply concerned and disappointed by this invitation—particularly in light of the Indian Government’s alleged direct involvement in the assassination of Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The lack of cooperation from Indian authorities in the ongoing investigation by the Canadian Government has only added to this frustration.

To raise our collective voice and demand justice, peaceful protests and demonstrations have been organized during the G7 meetings in Calgary and Banff. These protests are being supported by communities from across the globe, along with allied organizations.

Designated Protest Locations in Calgary:
1. Calgary City Hall (Downtown)
2. Near Cowboys Casino
3. Scenic View Parking Lot on Barlow Trail (near the airport)
4. Banff city

Protest Location in Banff:
• A designated site has also been arranged in Banff, where live telecasts and surveillance cameras will provide visibility to international leaders and media outlets.

The Calgary Police Service and RCMP will be present to assist and ensure safety. They have requested our full cooperation. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
• Do not block traffic or occupy roadways.
• Remain peaceful and avoid confrontation with any other groups.
• If you require help or encounter any issues, contact the on-duty officer immediately.
• Only designated community representatives with accurate information and strong communication skills will speak to the media.

Let us remember that we, the Sikh community in Calgary, are hosts during this international event. It is our duty to conduct ourselves with dignity, responsibility, and respect toward all individuals and authorities.

Take care of yourselves and each other. Let’s stand united in our cause and make a powerful yet peaceful statement.
