The Earth looks mostly blue from space. That blue is water, and covers 71% of our planet’s surface.

But here’s the catch:

97% of that water is salty ocean water. Only 3% is freshwater.

And of that little 3%, over 2/3 is locked away in ice caps and glaciers.

Which means, less than 1% of all Earth’s water is accessible as surface or groundwater.

This tiny fraction supports all life on land.

Abundance is often an illusion.

Early in my copywriting career, I worked at Lintas advertising agency in the language department. My main task was to translate English ads into Hindi.

At first, it was tough. My translations felt lifeless-- words without a soul.

Then I changed my approach.

Instead of translating word-for-word, I started focusing on the ad’s objective. I treated the English ad as a springboard and aimed for something better:

‘Could I make the Hindi version better than the original English?’

Slowly, my Hindi copy began to shine with originality.

To my surprise, some clients even asked for revisions of the English ads after reading my Hindi versions.

That short stint did more than just improve my work-- it helped me get a footing in Mumbai and taught me a powerful lesson:

No task is small. When we put our heart into it, the effort and creativity are noticed, even in the most routine work.

So, if you’re early in your career or feeling stuck with “small” tasks, keep your chin up. Let’s approach every assignment as an opportunity to bring our best.

Today, the last day of the year. And I wish to share an important learning with you.

We don’t need to be artists to benefit from creativity.

Not all of us can draw perfectly or write poems that follow every rule of meter and rhyme.

But that’s not important.

The value lies in expressing our creative thoughts-- even if imperfectly.

Why not sketch a rough drawing?
Write a 'poem' that expresses your emotions even if it falters on poetic rules.
And jot down ideas or feelings.

These simple creative acts help us process our emotions. Unlock new perspectives. And bring clarity.

Creativity isn’t about perfection. It’s about giving an expression to what’s inside us.

So let’s not wait for “the right skills” or “the right moment.” It can be too late. We can start creating today, just as we are.

Our voice, our expression, our creative spark-- they matter.

When it comes to creativity we talk about 'connecting the dots.'

And here is a good example, how dots get connected.

Interior design may stay in your home, but it does have a connection to fashion, according to New York interior designer TC Chou, the founder of Design Determination.

When he starts working with a client to help design (or redesign) their home, he starts in their closet. And there is a good reason.

He believs--Everybody has their favorite color, so we usually get color inspiration from their closet first, and then also textures.

I feel that's a great way to start the client brief. It's like a springboard to jump start the designing project.

Why not find some ways to connect with our own clients?

When we hear the rags-to-riches stories, what gets missed out are: details in the stories.

How could those achievers get the chance to showcase their skills and talents?

How could they get into an arena which wasn't open to all?

Watch this Ted Talk by taylor Doe to understand what gets you the big jobs (and big business opportunities).

And then think, how can you apply this learning!

Here is the link:

In this paradigm shifting talk, Taylor Doe introduces original concepts that will change the way you hear success stories. Asking “How do people get the good...

It was chaos all over, in spite of all the pre-work by the administration.

Because change is difficult.

For a test, close your arms on the chest. Now switch the other way round.

Seems awkward, and you wish to go back to the usual stance. Isn't it?

That's why we keep maintaining low productivity habits. We know, but find it tough to change.

Keeping the change needs deliberate efforts.

But it is worth it. Because the ability to change on purpose adds a lot to your winnability.

Practice this competency. Change something today-- Eat with the other hand, travel home by a different route, and try the most bizarre recipe on a menu.

Many people don't know, but they suffer from a disease called EXCUSITIS.

It refers to the habit of making excuses for one's failures or shortcomings instead of taking responsibility or action to improve.

People who suffer from excusitis blame external factors, such as circumstances or other people, for their lack of success.

In my view, this is the single biggest factor limiting our growth.

So, next time you see yourself getting into this trap, PAUSE.

And ask:

-- In what areas could we have done better?
-- What were the gaps in our planning and ex*****on?
-- What we can learn from this experience to improve our performance next time!

This shift will lead us to greater success for sure.

PS: Author David J. Shawartz coined this term.

Someone asked me, can we use design thinking for career advancement? That's an interesting question. And I think it absolutely can!

1/ First thing: Don’t assume anything. Research your company's immediate goals, talk to leaders, listen carefully to their speeches. When in doubt, ask directly.

2/ Next, reflect. How might you contribute to these goals? Analyse how your current role fits into the bigger picture. What could be your unique, demonstrable contributions towards achieving these goals?

3/ Propose a small project or initiative to demonstrate your alignment with the organization’s future. This helps you get valuable feedback and check if you’re on the right track.

4: Once the project is done, ask for feedback and suggestions. Consider feedback not criticism, but suggestions for improvements.

Design thinking involves continuous iteration. Propose, get feedback, refine, and align with organizational goals. This will help you get ahead in your career faster.

Today for my morning walk, I went to Zen Garden, a small garden, and there is this huge rock.

Painted like an elephant, it's like we are looking at a real-sized elephant in front of us.

That's a real good example of creativity. When creative artists look at an object, they don't just look at it as it is. They imagine the hidden potential of the object. The magic veiled beneath the surface.

Creative people think, in what way can we transform the object into something beautiful, into something interesting, something wonderful?

Creativity is not just about creating wild ideas. It is about unlocking the hidden potential in a situation.

I don't know the artist who created this elephant.

He or she certainly deserves my admiration!
