I first encountered this problem when I was building a social commerce platform for small businesses a few years back.
Across the country small business owners wanted to reach a market that was beyond their geography.
They were taking the first step on digital. Being on platforms like Amazon and Flipkart helped them access a bigger market.
There were assured footfalls , but only for the top few in each category.
The social media marketplace was crowded and every seller looked the same , they were into commodity products.
The were unable to command price premiums as costumers looked for the cheapest products.
One of the frequent question they asked was "How can we differentiate in commodity business ?"
