They say the spaces we heal in can shape how we feel, recover, and connect. In healthcare today, design is becoming an active part of that healing experience itself.

Recently inaugurated, the extension at Peerless Hospital reflects this evolving approach to healthcare design through spaces that bring together functionality, well-being, and a strong sense of place.

Designed by Edifice, the project integrates biophilic design, natural light, and intuitive wayfinding to create calmer and more supportive environments for patients, caregivers, and staff. Public areas, patient rooms, and staff spaces use colour, materiality, and form to reduce stress and enhance comfort, while lounges and cafeterias create moments of pause within the larger healthcare ecosystem.

The interiors subtly draw from Kolkata’s traditional Kantha craft, translating layered textures and handcrafted motifs into a contemporary healthcare setting with warmth and familiarity.

The project reflects a broader shift in healthcare architecture, where the built environment contributes to the overall human experience of care.

The EdiTion by Edifice: May 2026 Newsletter is Live!

This edition features the New Administrative Building at JSW Vijayanagar Works, Bellary. Designed within India’s largest integrated steel plant, the project brings together scattered operations into a cohesive administrative centre that supports collaboration and daily exchange.

The design draws from the architectural language of Hampi, translating its courtyards and processional axes into a contemporary workplace framework. Open courts organise movement, frame the landscape, and create a shared ground for interaction across departments.

Alongside this, the issue also brings together media features, glimpses of life at Edifice, and our latest project journeys.

The New Administrative Building, currently under construction at Kalmeshwar, brings together office functions within a compact and efficient setting. Built on an existing hardscape site, it responds to both operational needs and ecological considerations.

The design follows a simple, climate-conscious approach. A linear form allows for better daylight, while flexible layouts support future changes over time.

As the project continues to take form, it reflects a clear and measured approach to workplace design.

Business districts in India are being redefined by changing expectations of how people work, move, and spend time in cities. They are no longer seen as isolated office clusters, but as integrated environments where work overlaps with retail, leisure, and everyday urban life.

In response, planning is becoming more people-focused with active ground planes, integrated landscape systems, pedestrian-first circulation, and flexible frameworks that allow districts to evolve.

This is leading to a more pragmatic model of the business district, one that functions as a connected urban environment rather than a standalone workplace zone.

Interiors in healthcare spaces directly influence how patients experience care, movement, and recovery.

At Breach Candy Hospital’s New Tower, the interior language continues the Art Deco legacy of the existing campus, while adapting it to the needs of a modern clinical environment.

Curved geometries inspired by seashell forms shape key interior spaces, softening transitions and guiding movement through the hospital. This is supported by a palette of warm coral tones balanced with cooler accents, helping create visual clarity and ease of orientation across levels.

Material selections such as non-porous finishes, epoxy flooring, and controlled junctions are integrated into the design to support infection control, durability, and ease of maintenance, while maintaining a calm and coherent interior environment.
