We had the privilege of welcoming Shri Sadanand Date to our headquarters for a leadership session that left every person in the room deeply moved and inspired.
A 1990 batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, he currently serves as the Director General of Police, Maharashtra, the highest rank in the state police and has previously served as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). But long before the titles and the ranks, there was a moment that defined the man.
On the night of 26th November 2008, when terrorists unleashed chaos across Mumbai, he stood his ground at Cama & Albless Hospital, a hospital for women and children and fought back, even as he was wounded in the line of duty. His actions that night saved lives, and earned him the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
The session was an honest, wide-ranging, and deeply insightful conversation on leadership, service, and what it truly means to wear the uniform with integrity. He spoke about navigating some of the most complex and high-stakes situations in Indian law enforcement from counter-terrorism operations and organised crime to white-collar fraud and national security and how every challenge ultimately came down to clarity of purpose, discipline of mind, and unwavering commitment to one’s duty.
