Passenger Entrapment – Rescue Done Right Matters as Much as Prevention
A recent incident at a railway station highlighted not just the entrapment—but the way the rescue was carried out.
To evacuate passengers, the entire landing door was forcibly removed, causing damage to equipment and creating additional safety risks.
What Went Wrong
• Rescue handled by untrained personnel
• Use of improper methods
• Damage to critical safety components
• Increased risk during rescue itself
Why This Is Dangerous
• Landing doors are safety components, not access panels
• Improper rescue can lead to falls, entrapment, or further injuries
• Damage results in unsafe lift conditions post-rescue
Correct Approach
✔ Only trained & authorized personnel should perform rescue
✔ Use proper door unlocking tools & procedures
✔ Rescue only when car position is confirmed
✔ If unsure, wait for trained technicians
Key Message
A wrong rescue can be more dangerous than the breakdown itself.
