📢 *Enough is Enough! It's Time for Indian Optometrists to Unite.*
*Dear Fellow Optometrists,*
Today, the *Bachelor of Optometry is a 5-year professional degree (including internship).* We undergo rigorous academic and clinical training to become primary eye care professionals. We examine patients, prescribe spectacles and contact lenses, detect eye diseases, manage binocular vision disorders, provide low vision rehabilitation, and play a vital role in preventing avoidable blindness.
Yet, despite our education, skills, and contribution to society, the Optometry profession in India continues to be denied the recognition, authority, and legal status it truly deserves.
This movement is *not merely about the title "Dr."* It is about the *identity, dignity, rights, professional recognition, and future of every Optometrist in India.*
For years, decisions affecting our profession have been made without adequate representation from qualified Optometrists. We have remained silent for far too long. *If we do not stand up today, future generations of Optometrists will continue to face the same struggles.*
*📌 Our Demands*
✅ Immediate and complete implementation of the *National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021* across all States and Union Territories.
✅ Formation of an *Independent Optometry Council* with elected representation from qualified Optometrists.
✅ Professional recognition of qualified Optometrists, including our demand for the right to use the title *"Dr."*
✅ Expansion of the legally recognised scope of Optometry, enabling qualified Optometrists to independently provide comprehensive primary eye care, including examination, diagnosis, management, and treatment of anterior segment eye conditions through appropriate legislative and regulatory reforms.
✅ Protection of the Optometry profession by preventing unqualified practice and ensuring that Optometric services are provided only by qualified Optometrists.
*📢 Now is the Time to Act*
This movement is *not against any profession.* It is *for the rights, recognition, and future of Optometry in India.*
I appeal to every *Optometrist, Optometry student, educator, institution, clinic owner, hospital, and Optometry association* to unite under one common cause.
*📍 Let's Organise a Peaceful Protest at Mantralaya, Mumbai*
I propose that *Optometrists from across Maharashtra* unite for a *peaceful one-day protest at Mantralaya, Mumbai,* to submit our demands to the Government of Maharashtra and urge the Central Government to ensure the full implementation of the *NCAHP Act, 2021* and strengthen the Optometry profession in India.
This movement must not stop in Maharashtra. I sincerely request every Optometrist, Optometry student, institution, and association across India to organise similar peaceful one-day protests in their respective State Capitals, Mantralayas, Secretariats, or Legislative Assemblies.
*From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Punjab to the North-Eastern States, let every State Capital witness the united voice of Optometrists* demanding the implementation of the NCAHP Act, an Independent Optometry Council, professional recognition, expansion of our scope of practice, and our demand for the right to use the title *"Dr."*
*Let one day become the day when every State Capital hears the voice of Indian Optometrists.*
No single association, institution, or individual can achieve this alone. *Only a united profession can bring meaningful change.*
*If thousands of Optometrists stand together across India with one voice, our demands cannot be ignored.*
*Every revolution begins when ordinary people decide they have had enough. Our profession has waited long enough. The time for silence is over. The time to unite is now.*
*The future of Optometry depends on what we do today—not tomorrow.*
