Who has cleared the UPSC CSE prelims 2018? What do they think they did right? What are their suggestions?

I did. Okay, let me tell you a truth nobody told you

Half don't study newspapers. They rely on PT365 and test series for current affairs. I have my notes for 9.5 months, rest I too depended on such material.

NCERTs are good for basic. However the time is high that you move from getting stuck in NCERTs. The prelims 2018 paper was a jumpscare for many.

Egomaniacal chest thumping of interview going candidates and past candidates is what leads most candidates astray. Especially first timers. Let me be honest with you. Nobody studies 10 hours a day on an average or 2 hours a day on an average. Utter rubbish.

Save yourself. April and may are the months you will need to press the most out of yourself. For me I wasted half of Feb and most of march due to personal reasons.
Believe. The margins between success and defeat are thin. And even if you study 25 hours a day (haha) there's no guarantee that you will crack LSE (luck based scholastic exam, as CSE has presently become)

Read the question. Half of the questions are such that, you can just pick out options. For example, there are options where they will say some tribal scheme with some garbage data has been implemented by ministry of corporate affairs. Ok, ministry of corporate affairs, you safely strike it off.
Be a Contrarian. It helps. There is decreasing stress on geography in this prelims and 2017, the stakes are high that this card too will be played soon.

You neither need to be a know all or a do all. Your way of handling yourself in the exam hall matters the most. Let me be totally honest with you. This time I couldn't sleep the night before prelims. But I decided to stay calm, and composed. Things fell in place. I am a no nonsense player mostly. So even in this landmine filled paper I decided not to attempt much. I attempted 83, 58 of which were definitely correct. Others, I dunno.

Most important advice: Don't take my advice. That it worked for me somehow, to stick to the books I studied and notes I made, and I continue sticking to them till this day. And no I didn't study all the Ncerts, like that of history or sociology or polity. Geography and economics I studied though. However there are thousands of roads to moksha. You can definitely find yours.

Don't get ruffled by a tough qp. UPSC does have the habit of β€œSahi Khel gaya ****ho”, so don't worry much. Your patience and attitude in the exam hall can get you good scores even with less preparation
Edit : I didn't mean csat, I meant gs paper in point 5

What went wrong with you in the 2018 UPSC prelims despite one year of your dedicated preparation?

I started my preparation in june 2017 by joining vajiram and Ravi . Here I would like to share with you my 5 mistakes which put my roll no. out of prelims result pdf list.

1- I didn't join my optional in june / july batch instead I joined in nov batch. Classes of optional used to run for 4 hours/day and 2:30 hours/day for GS. I started giving much attention to optional. I thought that I would revise all GS notes within last 3 month before prelims which I failed to do. I should have continued with my GS notes revision simultaneously.

2- Not reading Newspaper{NP} - I only focused on current affair booklets . Again I should have read NP because many questions such as ASIAN PREMIUM and many more directly came from NP….{EDIT- I crammed all current affair booklets of Vajiram and Ravi from July 2017 - April 2018 and it had helped me in only 4 current affair questions out of 37 which came in prelims. So i would say never skip newspaper}

3- My classes ended in last week of march. I had left with 2 month from prelims exam (on 3rd June). I couldn't decide what should I do first {revision of notes or attempt test series} thus I decided to focus on both but this strategy also failed. Neither I could revise my class notes properly nor test series.

4- I attempted 70+ tests from various institutes but I gained nothing because I only attempted and not revised any of them .So I think I should have focused on one coaching test series and should have revised it atleast twice.

5- My educational background is humanity. For me math is my biggest fear and it started increasing when I attemped my first Vajiram & Ravi CSAT TEST in April. I couldn't even score qualifying marks in that test. So now in april when everyone is focused on GS 1 only, I am preparing for CSAT also. I should have eliminated my math fear before February so I could give more time to my GS 1 prepration but I failed to do so.

{In prelims 2018 I am scoring between 90 to 95 in GS 1 and 86 in GS2 or CSAT}

Thus in summary I would say,

Revise your class notes or books thoroughly and as many times as you can.

give exclusive last 3 months to prelims preparation.

Do not skip NP at any cost and if possible make notes out of it.

Attempt limited tests and revise them atleast twice.

If anyone is suffering from CSAT fear, solve this problem as early as possible.

Thank you .

What happens after clearing the UPSC exam?

Once the cut-off is declared, then the mark sheet is sent to only the qualified candidates. This mark sheet has detailed information about marks obtained in Prelims, Mains and Interview. Then UPSC declares the answer for Prelims exam.

Now, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) decides the services allocation of candidates in the merit list. This process takes some time. It may take 4-6 weeks (after the result is declared) in getting the allocation.

The allocation process is done in phases (or rounds). Not all candidates, get the allocation in the first round. Those who do not get the allocation in the first round, have (*) printed against their name in the list on DoPT website. These candidates may have to wait for some more time to get the allocation.

There are various reasons due to which candidates may get (*) against their name. The reasons could be such as, insufficient documents, a candidate may medically unfit, etc. However, these issues are resolved and the number of candidates with (*) decrease after each round.

Once all this process is done, DoPT sends an official service allocation letter via post and email, to all the selected candidates.

From here onward, candidates are taken care by Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). This organization begins the registration process for the Foundation Course (FC). All the selected candidates are registered for this course. During the registration process, you may seek exemption from Foundation Course. For doing this you have to select a valid reason from given options during registration, such as:

Medical issues

Already completed FC previously

Willing to appear for Civil Service exam again, etc.

The candidates, who are willing to join FC, get their appointment letters within a week or two. Those who opted out of this course get appointment letter directly from their Cadre Controlling Authorities. After this their service-specific training starts.

For further training, candidates are sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Here they are trained on how to perform their duties with responsibility and execute their powers.

After the completion of Foundation Course, all the candidates (probationers) are taken for a tour around India (Bharat Darshan). After this, their specific training starts. This training is divided into two phases: Phase I (15 weeks) and Phase II (6 weeks).

Pay scale may vary based on the Cadre. It may range from the monthly income of 50, 000 to 2.5 Lakhs. In addition to it, these employees get all the benefits such as a rent-free accommodation, PF, Pension Plan, Medical facilities, etc…

Why are IAS and IPS officers paid so less compared to MLAs and MPs even after clearing one of the toughest exams and taking the responsibility of a whole district?

A senior IAS official gets about two lakhs. It's a pretty good salary! An MLA averages 1.1 lakh, the lowest is paid in Tripura (17 500 / -) and the highest is paid by Telangana (2.50 000 / -).
Then, on average, one member earns less than the senior IAS officer.

A member earns a maximum of 2.7 lakh per month, including office expenses and secretarial assignments.
A standardized salary would be around 2.3 lakhs. It is only nominally above an IAS leader in the forefront.

And the question is incorrect in itself. The most rigorous review is not made by officials but by politicians. They do it every five years. It is safe to say that the efforts and punishments of an honest public representative in the office are much more important than those of the bureaucrats.

And be careful, this is not a comfortable position for more than 30 years. An honest politician will have to work hard to be elected again.

How can I change my life within the next 10 minutes?

I suggest meditating!

A few months ago, I found myself going back to my old ways of thinking everything and letting negative thoughts flood my brain. I often feel that I have too much to do at once. As a result, I could not achieve many things I wanted to do.

I decided it was time to start mentally training. I started to look more at meditation. I had already tried guided meditation once or twice in the past, but I never saw myself as a "type of meditation". In fact, I was so used to running that the thought of not thinking for a while worried me.

Thanks to my research, I had the opportunity to meet a mobile application called Headspace. Before going any further, I want to say that I am not affiliated with the Headspace.

I recommend Headspace. It is free to download and allows you to make the "Take Ten" program completely free without a credit card. This program lasts ten days and only takes ten minutes of your time each day. Personally, I noticed very positive effects in my general quality of mood and my ability to control my concentration in a few days.

Once the program is complete, you can browse again or become a premium member to access the entire library. NOTE: You can try the free premium subscription for thirty days, as long as you cancel it before the end of thirty days. I made the decision to become a premium member because I loved the experience.

Is it true that the IAS/IPS or any other civil servant fears a top politician?

India is a democracy and in a democracy the politicians are vested with huge powers as Ministers.

Who then could be more powerful than those whom politicians fear?

Is not it interesting to know who the politicians fear?

And the answer is

Politicians do not fear anyone in India, except the officials. Agents IAS, IPS or IRS.

Many politicians have been sent to prison for the sincerity and commitment of the officials.

Many politicians, including former CM, remain in prison.

IAS / IPS / IRS agents can inform politicians.

However, they do not work below them.

They work with politicians.

They work under the law and have the real power to enforce the law.

They fear politicians only when they themselves are corrupt or ineffective; and, therefore, they need the support and protection of politicians to continue with their harmful activities.

Politicians come and go in five years.

Public servants have been there for almost four decades.

They are not appointed by politicians or at the mercy of politicians for their survival in government.

Their conditions of service are protected by the Constitution of India and can not be lifted by any politician provided they do their work honestly and in accordance with the law.

The BJP wins just 2 of 14 by-poll seats. What's your take on this?

What stupidity do people have who think that the BJP lost the by-elections?

Do you not watch movies in Hindi (or other Indian languages)?

The filmed hero is deliberately beaten at the beginning to deceive his opponents.

When he is defeated, all his enemies advance to enjoy his blows.

Then, suddenly, he reaches his full form.

He gets up and hits all of them alone and also with empty hands.

Who can even dream of defeating the BJP led by two superstars?

They have deliberately and strategically lost their seats so that the opposition parties trust their success too much, while BJP and RSS executives wake up to work harder during the next year to be able to beat them without effort. united opposition

Shri Rajnath Singh summed up BJP's strategy so well: "For a massive jump, you always have to go back two steps."

Prepare for the next BJP jump in 2019

How were your UPSC CSE 2018 prelims?

I think UPSC is testing the patience of the students and telling them to do something better in life after 2 attempts.
I started preparing civil services since 2013.
Hard work used to bring fruit in the early years.

I appeared for the preliminaries for the first time in 2014. I eliminated the Prelims, Hands and I applied for Personality Test (Interview) in 2015, 2016 and 2017. (As you know, it takes almost a year of Prelims for the personality test and final results).
I could not erase Hands (written) in 2017 and, therefore, there is no personality test in 2018.

Why did I tell you all this? Just to let you know that there are many people who make a great effort year after year to pass this test.

And after appearing for Prelims 2018 and also for 2017, I told myself that UPSC told me to get out of this vicious circle of attempts and failures. There are many standard questions, such as Current Affairs: Syrian edition, Aadhar, IRNSS, and ISRO, etc.
But, the amount of absurd questions also increases; you feel like WTF and the f ** k reads all the information in such detail. Only luck can help you navigate later. And knowing that "Chance" is going to have a more important role in his selection after putting 4-5 years of hard work into this terrifying revision.
All serious candidates in this game know what they have lost to clear the preliminaries and do it in Hands / Interview. The innumerable amount of NOS for your friends, the trips that you have planned but not because the Prelims / Hands are close and the expectations that people have about you because you have put so many days/weeks/months/years of hard work for this exam. It will erase once we have a rank in the final list (that's what we think).
Although my 2018 Prelims scores seem to be good enough to help me appear in Hands-2018, I definitely decided to appear for the last time.
And, I have serious suggestions from people who have just started preparing for the exam

Work hard. This sometimes eclipses luck.
Come with a plan: how many years, how many attempts and what to negotiate at the price of your bonus years.
Do not skip this criticism just because some Bhaiya / Didi have reached the bottom row. Do it because you want it.
Do not put more than 2 years of your first year of life (21-32) for this exam. (Why am I doing it?) Well, I'm already working and I can take the time to prepare. In addition, it is always good to learn from the experience of others (here mine).
