11/10/2026

When relatives point out your mistakes, humiliate you in front of everyone, or taunt you, they often justify it by saying, “We are your own people, so we have the right to speak to you this way.” But do they exercise that same right when it comes to applauding your achievements, appreciating your intelligence and acknowledging your progress? Do they genuinely celebrate your success? Do they recognize your accomplishments? Do they proudly speak your name in front of others?

Or is it that everyone notices your mistakes, everyone has time to find faults in your life, and many have plenty of words to question your decisions? Yet, when you accomplish something good, move ahead through your own intelligence, and create an identity of your own, everyone suddenly falls silent?

When it comes to commenting on what is going wrong in your life, what you wear, how you live, whom you talk to, how much you spend, or what decisions you make, they remember their rights as relatives. But when your hard work pays off, your knowledge is recognized, your work is appreciated, or you achieve something through your own determination, where does that same sense of entitlement disappear?

Pointing out your mistakes is not the same as loving you, and humiliating you is certainly not the same as wanting what is best for you.

Someone who genuinely cares about you will notice your mistakes, but they will also recognize your strengths. They will help you improve without breaking your confidence or making you feel inferior. They will try to support you when you fail and will be genuinely happy for you when you succeed, perhaps even more excited than you are yourself.

But in some relationships, your mistakes become a topic of discussion while your success becomes something to ignore. People have no hesitation in talking about your shortcomings, yet they seem to run out of words when it comes to appreciating your abilities. They find time to speak negatively about you, but cannot bring themselves to offer even a few words of appreciation for the good things you do.

Sometimes, your success is observed silently. Sometimes, your achievements are deliberately overlooked. And sometimes, your accomplishments are attributed to luck, diminishing the value of your hard work.

Perhaps your failures are easier for some people to accept, while your progress makes them uncomfortable. Of course, not every instance of indifference is driven by jealousy. However, if a relationship consistently focuses only on your mistakes while refusing to acknowledge your positive qualities, it is certainly worth reflecting on the behaviour within that relationship.

Those who claim to have the privileges of close relationships should remember one thing: that privilege is not just about pointing out mistakes. It is also about appreciating achievements.

If you remember the relationship when pulling someone down, you should remember that same relationship when it is time to encourage them to move forward.

Love, affection, and genuine care are not demonstrated merely by offering advice on how someone should improve. They are also demonstrated by sharing in their happiness, respecting their accomplishments, and celebrating their success wholeheartedly.

Ultimately, the people who recognize your potential and encourage you to move forward are far more valuable than those who keep counting every mistake you make.

Because in genuine relationships, people should not merely tolerate your success. They should be able to celebrate it with you. ❤️

The Right Place Won’t Ask You to Fold Your Wings 🦋

The right person, relationship, or environment will never make you feel that you have to become smaller to make someone else comfortable.

If he tells you not to post too much, not to look too beautiful, not to attract attention, not to be too visible, or to stay away from the limelight, it is worth asking yourself a question: Does he genuinely care about your well-being, or does he feel uncomfortable seeing you shine?

There is a difference between someone who protects your peace and someone who restricts your freedom.

Someone who genuinely loves you may remind you to be careful about your privacy, online safety, or the kind of attention you receive. But genuine care should not become an excuse to control your appearance, silence your voice, limit your creativity, or dim your personality.

If your beauty makes him insecure, you shouldn’t have to hide it to reassure him.

If your confidence makes him uncomfortable, you shouldn’t have to pretend to be less confident.

If your visibility threatens his ego, you shouldn’t have to disappear to protect it.

If your growth makes him feel left behind, you shouldn’t have to stop growing to keep him company.

And if your success attracts attention, you shouldn’t have to apologise for being noticed.

Love is not a cage disguised as protection.

Sometimes, people don’t ask you to change directly. Instead, they make you feel guilty for being who you are. They question your choices, criticise your self-expression, discourage your ambitions, or make you feel that being noticed by others is somehow a betrayal of the relationship.

Over time, you may begin to censor yourself. You may post less, dress differently, hide your achievements, suppress your excitement, or avoid opportunities simply to prevent unnecessary arguments.

Eventually, you might find yourself seeking permission for things that should be your personal choices.

That is when you need to pause and reflect on what you are sacrificing to maintain the relationship.

A healthy relationship allows two people to have their own identities. You can love someone deeply without surrendering your individuality. You can respect your partner’s feelings without making yourself responsible for managing every insecurity they experience.

The right person doesn’t necessarily have to enjoy the limelight themselves. They don’t have to share every interest, appreciate every post, or agree with every decision you make. But they should respect your freedom to express yourself, pursue your ambitions, and enjoy the things that make you feel alive.

Of course, not every disagreement is an attempt at control, and not every request for privacy comes from insecurity. What matters is the pattern. Can you express yourself without fear? Can you disagree without being punished emotionally? Are compromises mutual, or are you always the one expected to adjust?

You should never have to choose between being loved and being yourself.

Your beauty is not a threat. Your confidence is not a provocation. Your ambition is not an act of disrespect. Your visibility is not something you need to apologise for.

You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to be seen. You are allowed to grow beyond the version of yourself that someone else finds comfortable.

The right environment will not demand that you abandon your wings just because it cannot understand your desire to fly.

And the right person will not measure the depth of your love by how much of yourself you are willing to suppress.

Remember, you were not born to spend your life folding your wings because someone else is afraid of how high you might fly.

The right place won’t ask you to become less of yourself. It will give you the freedom to become more. 🦋✨
