What makes people who have every reason to protect their own interests choose to work together?
Crispino Lobo has seen that the resistance is often deeply personal.
There is fear of losing what is yours.
There is mistrust of who is coming in.
Sometimes, there are years of tension with the very people you are expected to collaborate with.
But something changes when people begin to see that their interests are connected.
My success depends on yours.
And yours depends on mine.
That is when collaboration becomes community self-interest, and collective action becomes possible.

Can communities manage public money responsibly?
Decades ago, village communities were given funds, asked to account for every rupee, and trusted to decide how those funds should be used.
This was at a time when literacy levels were far lower than they are today.
Yet the real test came much later.
Years after the projects had ended, many of these communities were still doing well. The people they were meant to support had moved out of poverty.
That raises a bigger question: do communities need more control, or do they need more trust?

Water shortages are often seen as a problem of supply.
But perhaps we need to ask a different question: how are we using the water we already have?
Water is not an infinite resource. It needs to be used efficiently, shared equitably, and reused wherever possible.
The challenge isn’t simply to reduce consumption.
It’s to make every drop count.

We often look at rural India through what it lacks.
But what if we looked at what it has?
Resourcefulness.
Resilience.
Creativity.
And the ability to make a lot out of very little.
Crispino Lobo’s experience working with rural communities has shown him a different side of India, one that is far more capable and innovative than it is often given credit for.

Michael started working on clean mobility after his son fell sick with respiratory illnesses.

Seeing his son’s health improve after moving to a greener place made him look more closely at air pollution.

That personal experience led him to a larger question: how do we protect the millions of children breathing polluted air?

People often think mechanics simply repair cars. Michael sees it differently.

A well-trained mechanic can help protect lives and the environment. Every properly maintained vehicle can mean safer journeys and fewer emissions.

Through his work Michael is helping redefine the role of the mechanics - from vehicle repairer to a steward of people and the planet.

Collaboration may be an overused word.
But solving complex problems has never been a one-organisation job.
Whether you're in government, the private sector, or a nonprofit, the question is the same:
How do we build on each other's strengths instead of working in silos?
Because the goal isn't individual success.
It's creating a greater impact for the people who need it most.

Sustainability cannot be inclusive if women are added as an afterthought.
If women make up half the population, they need to be part of the conversation from the beginning - whether it's technology, education, livelihoods, or natural resource management.
Not just as beneficiaries.
As contributors.
As decision-makers.
As co-creators.
Because no one can design for women without listening to women.

Good technology starts with understanding people.
Years spent working with farmers helped build a deep understanding of their needs, challenges, and how they consume information.
The transition from local-language videos to GenAI may look like a technological leap.
But the goal remains unchanged:
making knowledge more accessible to farmers.

We cannot build solutions for women farmers without women at the table.

As technology and AI become a bigger part of agriculture, one gap remains hard to ignore - the absence of women in leadership and decision-making roles.

The challenge isn’t just representation. It’s perspective.

Because when the people designing solutions don't reflect the people using them, important needs are often missed.
