I've been involved with Startup Oasis for a while now as a mentor. Based in Jaipur, the incubator is doing excellent work with startups that have a social underpinning.

The latest effort invites entrepreneurs working in the craft space to apply for 'craft catapult' a program that can significantly enhance their skills and probability of success.

A Minister has stirred up a controversy with his remark that North Indians lack skills and that while jobs were available, recruiters were unable to find people with the requisite skills. Without getting into the politics of it (who is responsible, is it only North Indians, etc) I think many recruiters will agree with this statement.

India is producing large numbers of unemployable youth. They may be educated - in fact many of them are graduates, engineers and even MBAs but they lack basic exposure, skills and the ability to work in a corporate environment. There is a huge need for inculcating 'corporate skills'

I doubt whether conventional educational institutions can do this in a hurry. Perhaps the need of the hour is for places like the Franklin Institute for air crew. There could be a massive opportunity here.

YFactor will shortly commence a project with a new packaged foods start up based in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The company will use state of the art technology to create a disruption in the category that it wishes to enter.

The assignment will involve conceptualising and implementing an end to end marketing and distribution strategy for the company.

Visited the market for shoe care in Vadodara. YFactor is starting a distribution project in East India for Max Wax, a well established brand in shoe care and air fresheners.

We had a fruitful visit to It is good to see the rapid progress that the country has made in recent years. It appears well poised to grow in future also. Gramshree, a start up in the agri space that works with tribal women to collect and market forest fruits received an award at FICCI's International Conference & Awards for Innovations by Agri Startups. The award was presented by Hon Sri Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation.
