Issue #9 of the SAMS Newsletter is out. 📬

This month, five sections. All of it relevant if you work in or alongside the social sector.

01 · SAMS In Action: Our MD Abhai Raj Singh reflects on 20+ years of placing people in the social sector — and what Labour Day should mean for how we treat our own.

02 · The Big Picture: Non-profits are India's fastest-growing hiring sector at 55% YoY growth. And yet, senior roles still take 14 weeks to fill. Something doesn't add up.

03 · In Depth: Four new Labour Codes came into force on 1 April 2026. Gratuity after 1 year. Benefit parity for contract staff. Mandatory appointment letters. If you run a team, this affects you.

04 · Sector Moment: CSR spending by NSE-listed firms jumped 23% to ₹22,212 crore in FY25. The money is moving. The people to deliver it — not so fast.

05 · Career Catalyst: It's National Technology Day. AI is already in the hiring room. The social sector is behind and here's what responsible adoption actually looks like.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟰 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

A senior programme professional from the social impact sector approached us recently after repeated rejections.

Strong profile.
Known organisations.
Relevant experience.
But almost no interview traction.

When we reviewed the CV, the issue became obvious within seconds:
• Leadership evidence was buried
• The CV read as operational, not strategic
• The language did not align with the role being targeted
• Critical programme scale and stakeholder management signals were nearly invisible
• The document was ATS-readable — but recruiter-unconvincing

This is more common than most professionals realise. Most CVs do not fail because the candidate lacks capability. They fail because the recruiter cannot see the fit quickly enough.

We reworked the positioning, rebuilt the structure, surfaced relevant evidence upfront, and aligned the CV to the actual role requirements.

The result?
The candidate began receiving interview traction within weeks.
No exaggeration.
No invented achievements.
No AI-generated rewriting.
Just sharper positioning based on how recruiters and hiring managers actually assess fit.

At SAMS, we review thousands of CVs across the social impact sector every year. The pattern is remarkably consistent:
𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.

If you are repeatedly applying but not getting interview calls, the problem may not be your experience. It may be your positioning.

Labour Day is a moment to recognise the contribution of workers whose effort sustains systems, services, and progress across sectors.

Every large change begins this small.

What we choose to protect today determines what endures tomorrow.

Across sectors and communities, the effects of environmental stress are already visible—impacting livelihoods, public health, and long-term resilience.

This calls for deliberate action.
In how we design programmes, use resources, and define impact.

Sustainability is not a parallel priority.
It is a responsibility embedded in every decision we make.

On Earth Day, we reaffirm the importance of acting with intent—
to protect, preserve, and build for the future.

The funding gap? It's also a people gap. 🧵

Swipe through our April newsletter highlights

→ Why clarity is the strategy
→ Degrees don't equal delivery
→ Who's actually doing the fundraising (hint: wrong person)
→ The FCRA bill: deferred, not gone
→ Fix your hiring timeline in 2 steps

30 years in the sector. This is what we know: the organisations that endure aren't the best funded. They're the clearest.
