Company like surveymonkey, a 10+ year old startup, grew the business to $30 million in revenue in 2008, with 85% EBITDA margins. It was sold to a private equity consortium in 2009 and received $100 million in debt financing from Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in year 2010 to reduce interest rates and prep for acquisitions. Some of that went towards buying a 49.9% stake in Salesforce.com. In year 2010 revenue was $50 million with overall 75 employees; total employees became to 100 in year 2011.
In December 2011, SurveyMonkey has Acquired Zoomerang, ZoomPanel, and TrueSample via TPG Capital. TPG receives a sub-10% stake in SurveyMonkey valuing it at $1 billion.
