Sakshi Issar, & Subject Matter Expert (SME) at NoMeansNo, facilitated the awareness session for Anganwadi workers and community stakeholders.

workers are the backbone of grassroots outreach. Working closely within districts, they go door-to-door spreading awareness on maternal health, child welfare, and community wellbeing. Equipping them with knowledge about workplace safety is critical, as they often become trusted points of contact for women and vulnerable groups within communities.

The session focused on:

✔ Understanding workplace sexual harassment within the unorganised sector
✔ The role of the Local Committee in addressing complaints where formal workplace structures may not exist
✔ Awareness about the SHe-Box portal as an accessible reporting mechanism
✔ Extending POSH protections to frontline and community workers and informal workforce members
✔ Enabling Anganwadi workers to guide beneficiaries facing workplace harassment challenges

When awareness reaches workers, its impact multiplies across communities. By strengthening the capacity of frontline changemakers, we move closer to safer and more inclusive workplaces for all.

At NoMeansNo, we remain committed to taking POSH awareness beyond corporate spaces, ensuring protectionframeworks reach the very foundation of society.

What does respect at the workplace truly mean?
For Women’s Day 2026, we asked leaders across industries to answer just one question.
Their answers were powerful. Honest. And deeply relevant for every organisation today.

🎥 Watch the voices behind .
Over the past week, the NoMeansNo Foundation Women’s Day Campaign 2026 brought together leaders from law, corporate organisations, public service and social impact to share what respect really looks like at work.

Because workplace culture doesn’t change through policies alone.

It changes when leaders speak up.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, we hope these voices inspire organisations everywhere to build workplaces where dignity, safety and equality are non-negotiable.

Respect is not a slogan. It is a culture.
Happy Women’s Day 2026.

Respect Begins When Voices Are Heard

Arti Chadha says,
Many years ago, early in my career, I remember leaving a meeting feeling invisible. I had prepared, I had ideas, but I never found the confidence to speak. The conversation moved on, decisions were made, and I walked out wondering if my voice really mattered.

Later that day, a senior colleague stopped me and said, “You had something to say in the meeting, didn’t you? Next time, please share it. Your perspective is important.”
It was a small conversation, but it stayed with me.

That moment taught me that respect in the workplace is not always about big policies or formal programs. Sometimes, it is about noticing the person who hasn’t spoken yet, encouraging someone who doubts their voice, or creating a space where people feel safe to express themselves.

Respect grows when people feel seen, heard, and valued.
This , let’s remind ourselves that inclusion begins with simple, everyday actions. Because when workplaces make space for every voice, they don’t just become more respectful — they become stronger, more innovative, and more human.

Respect begins when every voice in the room knows it truly belongs.

Respect Creates Psychological Safety

Manisha Singh says
Respect allows people to speak without fear of consequences for being honest.
When individuals can question ideas, raise concerns, or admit uncertainty without risking exclusion, workplaces become more resilient and innovative.

Psychological safety is not softness. It is structured trust built through fairness, listening, and consistent behavior.

Respect turns silence into participation and hesitation into confidence.
Open dialogue strengthens both performance and relationships.

Safe spaces encourage courage, not complacency.

Respect is a habit, a habit of making everyone seen, valued and supported.
A habit is something that is natural to us or if not natural, we make efforts to practise with intentionality till it becomes one.

As you may agree, habits cannot be altered as per one's mood, situation, circumstances, vibe etc. It shall be practiced irrespective of it all.

Respect, for me, is one such habit which is the fundamental basis of every relationship, every transaction, every interaction, every activity that we do. It is something that we carry with us closely everywhere anywhere irrespective of whoever we are with. It is given equally to everybody without any exceptions.

It can be expressed through words or simple acts of kindness.

At the workplace, respect is what binds teams together. It can be as simple as stepping in when the team needs you and stepping out recognizing the need for the team to grow, allowing them with space to showcase their individual potential.

When respect becomes the foundation of a team, it operates as a fully-functional cohesive unit. The manager shall take a genuine interest in knowing the team enabling them with a perspective to gauge when to step in or out. Other members of the team shall know that they can speak up and shall be heard.

Creating a respectful workplace needs intentional investment on one’s part to accept, acknowledge and act without any assumptions and exceptions. A little respect shall certainly go a long way.

Respect Begins With Integrity
Aparna from Quess Corp Limited says,
I’ve always had an innate need to be fair, even in the smallest of situations. When I was younger, this part of me often confused me — I didn’t fully understand why I felt so strongly about fairness. With time, age, and experience, I now know that this is what truly defines me.

To me, respect begins with being true to yourself and to the situation in front of you — including raising your hand when you need help. Not doing so, I’ve realized, can actually diminish the trust others place in you.

For a long time, I believed that being polite was the same as being respectful. That changed as I grew into roles that required difficult truths. I understood that honesty, even when uncomfortable, is the highest form of respect. Much like a doctor who must tell a patient the truth — not because it is easy, but because it is necessary — my role demands clarity, candour, and courage.

As Chairperson – POSH & Grievance Management, I face challenging situations every day. My belief in respect is tested whenever I must choose between convenience and conscience. I firmly believe people deserve to hear the truth, delivered with humanity.

In decision-making, respect means acknowledging the intelligence, intention, and experiences of others. It means not assuming, not stereotyping, and not judging. Inclusion, I’ve learned, only strengthens us as leaders because it brings perspectives we cannot access on our own.

Respect must become culture — something that flows naturally, like muscle memory.

For me, respect has always been rooted in integrity. And true integrity is simple: treating people the way you wish to be treated yourself.

Consistency Creates Credibility

For Preeti Negi, respect is built in repetition.

In her experience, policies are easy to draft and values are easy to articulate. What truly defines culture is how consistently those principles are applied across situations, hierarchies, and relationships.

She believes credibility is earned when standards do not shift based on designation or influence. The moment consequences vary by title, culture begins to erode. When recognition depends more on visibility than merit, trust quietly declines.

To her, respect means being predictable in fairness. It means integrity does not fluctuate with convenience or pressure. Due process must remain steady, even when decisions are uncomfortable.
Over time, consistency transforms written guidelines into lived culture.
