While a good basic training in the field of medicine & surgery was essential to know the brain (equivalent to hard ware in computer), it is my training in psychiatry that took me a step closer to understanding the mysteries o
f mind (the software). In fact no other branch of science comes as close to defining life as the field of psychology/psychiatry does. Though education within the safe boundaries of parent medical institute gave me super confidence to manage common psychiatric diseases like schizophrenia, melancholia, mania, anxiety, childhood disorders, dementia etc., (to realize later on that it was an incomplete, corporeal aspect of psychiatry only), the true spiritual nature of psychiatry (the mind) was realized only while working in the difficult, unfamiliar, environment of suburban Sydney in Australia. While working in the Trans & multicultural community of suburban Sydney, far away from the comfort of home, my consciousness grew to the higher order. I witnessed the way , psychiatry had trickled out through the tight compartments of mental institute & spread around gradually in the community, helping common people solve their common problems. Be it jealousy, anger, fear, mistrust in the relationships, oversensitivity to rejection leading to grief, issues related to problems of conduct in adolescents, mid-life crisis, loneliness associated with the old age, stress of corporate world or competitive field of sports, psychiatry has found applications in almost all fields of life. It is not considered to be equivalent to the treatment of insanity anymore. The ordinary people are opening up & receive benefits from it. It is a small effort from my department to help people get rid of the stigma in their mind associated with it & seek psychiatric/ psychological help without hesitation, backed up by the wonderful medical & surgical services provided by this prestigious hospital.
