Are Schools Prioritizing Safety? We've Come a Long Way!
We recently were invited to give a talk and workshop on the importance of safety and security in schools, for a gathering of the IB Heads of the Northern Region.
And what struck us most was something simple, yet powerful:
The fact that this conversation is happening at all.
Ten years ago, safety rarely found a place on leadership agendas in schools.
It was often reactive, addressed only after an incident or treated as a compliance requirement.
But today, educational leaders are gathering specifically to discuss safety, preparedness, and long-term protection strategies. This shift—this intentional space being created for safety—speaks volumes about how far we’ve come.
Seeing school leaders prioritise:
risk awareness,
emergency planning,
student protection, and
building a culture of safety…
…is not just encouraging — it’s transformational.
We’re grateful to be part of this evolving conversation, and even more grateful to witness the commitment of educators who understand that safety is the foundation on which learning truly thrives.
