We recently spoke to 12 VCs across the seed and Series A stages.
No founders.
No pitch decks.
Just one question.
What actually happens when a cold email lands in your inbox?
Here's what we heard.
"I receive 40–60 cold emails every week. Before I even open the deck, I Google the founder. If nothing stands out in those first few seconds, I move on."
Another investor said something similar about warm introductions.
"An introduction gets you into my inbox. It doesn't replace due diligence. I still look you up before deciding whether it's worth a meeting."
We also asked what they're actually looking for.
The answer wasn't perfection.
It was consistency.
Does the founder's online presence support the story they're telling?
If someone claims to be building an AI company but their public profile says very little about what they actually do, questions start immediately.
Then came the most interesting part.
One investor told us that the decision to take a first meeting is usually made in less than 30 seconds.
The pitch rarely creates interest.
It confirms what they've already concluded.
When we asked what would make that process easier, the answer was simple.
"A founder with a structured profile, verified metrics, a clear readiness score, and a well-defined capital plan immediately stands out. Structure itself is a signal."
That's exactly why Venture Suite exists.
