Daily reminder that Turtles are not “inside” their shells. They *are* their shells.

A tortoise/turtle shell contains nerves that connect to its central nervous system. So they can feel pain and pleasure when their shells are touched, stroked, knocked, dropped, or injured.

Contrary to what many people believe the shell is an inseparable part of their anatomy, forming part of its skeletal structure. The ribs and spine are fused inside the shell and contain nerves connected to the nervous system.

Take away - be gentle with your tortoise and give their shell a stroke, they will probably enjoy it 🐢

BharOS - India's Indigenous Mobile Operating System

1. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras)-incubated firm has developed an Indigenous Mobile Operating System that can benefit India's 100 crore mobile phone users.

2. Called 'BharOS,' this software can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf handsets. It provides a secure environment for users and is a significant contribution towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat.'

3. provides access to trusted apps from organisation-specific Private App Store Services (PASS). A PASS provides access to a curated list of apps that have been thoroughly vetted and have met certain security and privacy standards of organisations. This means users can be confident that the apps they are installing are safe to use and have been checked for any potential security vulnerabilities or privacy concerns.

4. BharOS comes with No Default Apps (NDA). This means that users are not forced to use apps that they may not be familiar with or that they may not trust. Additionally, this approach allows users to have more control over the permissions that apps have on their device, as they can choose to only allow apps that they trust to access certain features or data on their device.

5.BharOS offers 'Native Over The Air' (NOTA) updates that can help to keep the devices secure. NOTA updates are automatically downloaded and installed on the device, without the need for the user to manually initiate the process. This ensures that the device is always running the latest version of the operating system, which includes the latest security patches and bug fixes. With NDA, PASS, and NOTA, BharOS ensures that Indian mobile phones are trustworthy."

6.BharOS Services are currently being provided to organisations that have stringent privacy and security requirements whose users handle sensitive information that requires confidential communications on restricted apps on mobiles. Such users require access to private cloud services through private 5G networks.

7.The BharOS was developed by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops), which has been incubated by IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a Section 8 (Not for Profit) Company established by IIT Madras. The Foundation is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, under its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS). It aspires to put India on par with those few countries that currently possess such capabilities.

Weeks before the commencement of 'Har Ghar Tiranga' (hoisting of flag in every home) campaign, the Central government has changed the country's flag code.

The amendment in the flag code now permits the citizens to fly the tricolour both day and night. The other change in the flag code says tricolour can be machine-made besides use of polyester.

In the spirit of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,' which is being celebrated to commemorate 75 years of a progressive independent India, the Centre is going to launch a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign from August 13 to 15.

Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla has sent a letter to secretaries of all central ministries and departments notifying the changes in the country's flag code.

"The display, hoisting and use of the Indian national flag is governed by the Flag Code of India, 2002 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971".

The Flag Code of India, 2002 has been further amended through an order on July, 20, 2022 and clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag Code of India, 2002 shall now be read as under:- (xi) "where the Flag is displayed in open or displayed on the house of a member of public, it may be flown day and night," the letter stated.

Earlier, the tricolour was allowed to be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of weather conditions.

Similarly, paragraph 1.2 of Part-I of the Flag Code of India, 2002 shall now be read as under: 1.2. "The National Flag shall be made of hand spun and hand woven or machine made, cotton/ polyester/ wool/ silk khadi bunting."

Earlier machine made and polyester flags were not allowed to be used.
