Here is another inspirational story of a youngster who beat the odds to continue his education.

Name: Sakya Vinod

Vinod is a silent and shy 20 year old boy. He stays in a family with his parents and 2 sisters. After completing his school education, once he enrolled for B.Com at a local college, Vinod’s expenses increased as a result of daily travel and other activities. Since his father was the sole bread winner of family, it was difficult for his father to meet all the expenses. Vinod's family couldn't cope with increasing expenses and he was required to stop his education. To beat the odds, Vinod started looking for a parallel source of income while pursuing his graduation. Vinod got to know about TallBird, and he met the team at our office.

With TallBird's assistance, Vinod appeared for interviews in his preferred organizations and got selected in the Vodafone Call Centre as a tele caller.
Working from 2pm to 9pm, he is able to manage both job and education in parallel. Today Vinod earns close to Rs. 8000 per month. With this income he has started taking care of his expenses by himself. He is able to save some portion and contributes it to the family’s expenses. Being a fresher, job experience as a tele caller has helped him brush up his communication skills and he is much better groomed and confident today as compared to the days before this job. Sharing another story and experience of ordinary youth who beat the odds in her pursuit of employment!

Name: Pushpa
Native of: Jetapur village, Viramgam Taluka, Ahmedabad district.
Age: 28 years
Education: 12th pass
Employer: An NGO in Ahmedabad
Job Profile: Field Mobilizer

Pushpa comes across as a simple, shy woman but has a lot to share about her journey from her village to the city of Ahmedabad. Farming and weaving were the primary sources of income of her family but due to uncertainty in farming, average income of Rs.4000 through weaving, limited alternatives and poor education quality in school, Pushpa's family decided to migrate to Ahmedabad, for good. Realizing the need to support her family financially due to city's higher cost of living, Pushpa also started looking for employment opportunities. Through a reference, she got in touch with TallBird. Though reluctant initially, she appeared for interviews at multiple places. After facing initial rejections, she finally got a job and joined a reputed NGO as a field mobilizer and started earning a monthly salary of nearly Rs. 8000 per month.
This addition of Rs. 8000 to family income has definitely brought a relief to Pushpa & her husband. They have now shifted their 2 children from a govt. school to a private school for better learning, and also arranged for their tuition. Loan repayment is much easier now for the family. Her husband says that earlier, even in the village she never went to the nearby market alone, but today even in a city, she travels alone to different parts. Though Rs 8000 is not sufficient to turn around a family's fortunes any day, but this progress has definitely made the family more positive and confident about their capabilities and their future. Pushpa is now aspiring to join a government job and has started studying for exams while managing job & family. "Diwali achi ho jaegi is baar .." that’s how her husband sums it up.
