Do We Really Care …???
I am touched by the e-mourning, e-concerns, e-protests by everyone around after the sad demise of Delhi r**e victim.
Remembered one of the pictures shared on FB & BBM of 4 photos of how differently 4 countries treat such violence where one shows stoning of the culprit, other hanging and 3rd mob killing the culprit and in India a computer screen with FB on which people commenting.. How true isn’t it? We have become real e-citizen of the world!!!!
Now, what forced me to write this was , since morning I have been getting forwards, FB posts etc etc about how much the death of this girl affected all of us and on the same breath the next posts or forwards are about New Year Celebrations and Jokes !!! Waah.. how true are we in expressing our concerns and interests and we believe in life goes on !!!! Yes, it forced me to ask , DO WE REALLY CARE ?
Why don’t all the women do a token strike for a day, say no work, no s*x , no cooking, no parenting, no no for everything what they are doing for just one day and make every son, father, husband, brother, friend, boss, organization understand that we are important in your life and protecting us is your job as well and set a history..
If we really care, we should mourn and say no to celebrations and make our concern really loud and clear to the Government and fellow citizens and say enough is enough and we won’t tolerate it anymore. Don’t you think we should extend the state mourning of 5 days which you would have done if any of our leaders had died to ensure the death of this girl is not wasted towards ensuring a safe future for our women ?
Have you thought after all this, day after when the whole nation would be celebrating New years eve with parties music and fireworks, how would the near and dear ones of that girl feels ? What if , this had happen to any one of us and next day our neighbor celebrating next door, how would have we felt ?
It’s a National shame, where we lacked laws that don’t infuse fear of system for the criminals, and I won’t blame any one particular government or political party for it as its been the law from day one which had more loop holes for them to escape than to trap them and punish them. Yes, we need new and stricter laws to ensure the fear into anyone who in their wildest thoughts think of committing such crimes and let this and strike by all women become a token protest to ensure such laws are brought in as soon as possible within the constitutions limits.
Yes, at the same time we should also ensure all such new laws should not be misused against men, where we have seen complaints in broken relationships where the same law is misused against the man. There should be clear differentiation of these terms and the idea is to ensure enough fear against doing such crime where the punishment will be severe and yes for such heinous crimes, it should be death, nothing less and create faith in our system that it does protect its women.
Having, said this, It’s also the responsibility of we all men to protect women and if we get into a zero tolerance level to every such incidents happening around us, I am sure such things won’t happen. Lets teach our youngsters and kids to respect women and practice it and set examples whenever we see any disrespect to women in our society, whether its eve teasing or series crimes…
May be this note of mine is also read as just another forward post with some like and share clicks and people move on with their festive mood, but I feel I could voice my concerns and I will stay out of celebrations when her family is mourning over their loss to ensure at least I am with them at this hour of grief and pain. ….
