⭕ _*Association for Democratic Reforms vs Union of India 2024*_

* Struck down the Union's 2018 Electoral Bonds scheme.
* Supreme court held that the scheme violated the voter's right to information enshrined in Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution and, that the scheme could lead to Quid pro quo situation.

➡️ _*About Electoral bond*_

Electoral bonds were interest-free bearer bonds or money instruments that could be purchased by companies and individuals in India from Authorized branches of the State Bank of India (SBI).

👉🏻Key aspects of electoral bonds include:

* Introduced via the Finance Act of 2017 by amending four Acts vis : Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Companies Act, 2013, the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act, 2010 (FCRA)
* Sold in multiples of Rs 1,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 1 lakh, Rs 10 lakh, and Rs 1 crore
- Purchased through a KYC-compliant account to make donations to registered political parties under RPA, 1951.
- Encashed by political parties within a stipulated time.
- Anonymous, with no donor information on the instrument.
- No cap on the number of electoral bonds that can be purchased
