This is why nesting season changes everything. 🌿

A Long-tailed Broadbill carrying nesting material in Kaeng Krachan.

Suddenly birds become more active, more visible, and instead of quick sightings, you begin witnessing behaviour — nest building, courtship, feeding, and moments that make tropical birding so addictive.

Right now continues to be one of the most exciting times to experience birding in Thailand.

Superb sightings are often thrown around too casually—but moments like this are exactly what the word should mean.

A Red-bearded Bee-eater arriving at the nest with food, feeding the young, and repeating the cycle again and again… but what made it special wasn’t just the bird, it was the time it gave us.

This wasn’t a quick “tick” and move on sighting. It was extended, repeated views—enough time to actually follow behaviour, anticipate movement, and feel like you’re part of what’s happening rather than just watching it pass by.

And the most remarkable part—this wasn’t a one-off encounter. It happened at multiple points along the forest road in Kaeng Krachan, each time offering long, uninterrupted views of the same nesting rhythm.

That’s the difference between seeing a bird… and experiencing it.

This time of year changes birding completely in Thailand. 🌿

By April, the forests begin entering full nesting season, and suddenly everything feels more alive. Birds are no longer just feeding quietly and disappearing. They are moving constantly — carrying nesting material, calling more often, chasing rivals, returning repeatedly to the same areas, and staying visible far longer than usual.

Even a simple walk through the forest feels different now. There is movement everywhere.

And in the middle of all this activity, species like the incredible **Long-tailed Broadbill** become part of the atmosphere of the forest itself. One moment the canopy looks quiet, and the next a pair glides across the trail and disappears into the trees again.

This is why many experienced birders prefer this period in Thailand. It is not only about target species anymore — it is about behaviour, interaction, movement, and the feeling of the forest being fully active again.

From broadbills and barbets to hornbills, trogons and many other forest birds, nesting season brings a completely different energy to birding in Thailand.

Thailand remains an outstanding birding destination throughout the year, with different seasons offering different species, behavior, and experiences across the country.

One of the best **Black-and-red Broadbill** sightings we’ve experienced in Kaeng Krachan National Park. 🌿

This beautiful pair is currently nesting close to the roadside, regularly perching at eye level on branches hanging directly above the water — giving prolonged views that are rarely this good for such a spectacular forest species.

And it’s not just the Black-and-red Broadbills.

Right now, the forests of Kaeng Krachan are full of nesting activity, with broadbills , bee eaters becoming increasingly active and visible throughout the park.

This is one of the most exciting periods of the year to experience forest birding in Thailand properly.

📸 Trip report from our recently concluded 3-day Kaeng Krachan birding tour coming soon — along with many more pictures from the forests of Central Thailand.

There are few moments in Asian birding that compare to seeing a wild **Blyth's Tragopan** in the forests of Northeast India. 🌿🔥

Quiet, elusive, and unbelievably beautiful, this spectacular pheasant is one of the true prizes of birding in the Eastern Himalayas. And the fact that it lives in some of the richest forests on the planet makes the experience even more special.

The mountains and forests of Northeast India are among the most biodiverse regions in Asia — a place where every day can bring hornbills crossing valleys, mixed flocks moving through mossy forests, laughingthrushes calling from dense undergrowth, and rare Himalayan specialities appearing without warning.

This is not just birdwatching.
It is real exploration through one of the world’s great birding regions.

Yesterday afternoon in the forests of Phetchabun turned into one of those birding sessions you remember for a long time. 🌿

We spent some quiet time near a small forest waterhole where an **Eared Pitta** had been visiting regularly. After waiting patiently, the bird suddenly walked out into the open and gave us fantastic views at close range.

The Eared Pitta is one of those birds that feels almost unreal the first time you see it properly. Deep chestnut underparts, black face markings, and the way it moves quietly across the forest floor — it’s easily one of the most beautiful forest birds in Thailand.

What makes it even more special is that these birds usually stay hidden inside dense forest, and most sightings are often quick glimpses. Watching one calmly feeding in the open, in good light, is a completely different experience.

And while we were still focused on the pitta, a **Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo** called continuously from the forest below us for nearly 15 minutes, making the whole afternoon even more memorable.

No crowds, no rush — just a relaxed afternoon with some incredible forest birds.

**Peak magic in the Thai forests… 🌿✨**

The **Silver-breasted Broadbill** during nesting season is something special — not just a sighting, but a *full experience*.

This is the time when the forest truly comes alive… pairs working tirelessly, weaving those iconic hanging nests, calling softly, and offering repeated, intimate views that you simply don’t get at any other time of year.

It’s not about a single photograph — it’s about **watching behaviour unfold**. The rhythm of nest-building, the movement through the canopy, the connection between the pair… this is real birding at its finest.

Thailand, once again, delivers world-class moments for those who know when to be there. 😉
