NC's Jantar Mantar Protest: More Publicity Than Purpose
The proposed protest at Jantar Mantar for the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir's statehood appears to be more of a political spectacle than a meaningful struggle.
The Government of India has repeatedly stated that statehood will be restored at an appropriate time, and the issue has also been acknowledged in the proceedings before the Supreme Court. If that commitment already exists, then what exactly is this protest meant to achieve other than media attention?
If there was genuine political conviction, the protest should have focused on the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir's special constitutional status under Articles 370 and 35A—the issue that fundamentally changed the constitutional relationship between J&K and the Union of India. That would at least reflect consistency with the promises made to the people.
A protest for something that has already been promised raises more questions than hope. The people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve sincere politics, not symbolic publicity exercises.
