Knitting

Before winters were measured in degrees,
they were measured in preparedness.
Knitting in Kashmir was never a leisure activity.
It was planning.
It was patience.
It was love made practical.

Women sat together, needles clicking softly while conversations flowed, stories were exchanged,
and winters were anticipated long before they arrived.

Sweaters, socks, caps and more
each stitch carried warmth meant for someone specific.
Nothing was mass-produced.
Everything was intentional.

Today, knitting survives quietly.
Often forgotten, rarely taught.
Yet it remains one of the most powerful winter talents our culture holds.

This episode is a reminder, first for us
some skills didn’t need applause, they just kept families warm.
